Need some help deciding what drop shot rod to buy. I always rig with 8 to 10lb line and will throw in any type of cover at any depth. Have narrowed down to Dybons or G Loomis. Thanks

I really like my Dobyns 702 spinning set up.. Sensitive and has a great action. If you plan on throwing a shaky head a lot with the same rod, look at the 703 as well.
Put some different brands in your hand and see what you like.

I love my GLoomis dropshot rod BSR820S as I can finally feel everything. It casts great has a fast tip for detecting strikes. I also recommend the rod trade-in program at American Legacy Fishing in Evansville, IN. Adam will offer you a fare price for trade-in and their shipping of rods is rocket fast. They are great to work with and are fishermen themselves.

Loomis DS822 or DS821 is a great model. If you fish shaky heads to go with DS822. We make a similar model and love it and a ton of money has been won on fork on that model.

I just got a Dobyns Champion Extreme 702 and put a Shimano Core 50 on it. I prefer casting over spincast. Very light weight and sensitive. I may also look at getting a 742. I use GLoomis on 90% of my set ups and had considered getting the 822. I looked that 822 over for a year and bought the first Dobyns 702 I got my hands on.

I drop shot with a baitcaster as well most of the time and prefer the DX702. I paired this rod with a Chronarch mg7.

Both brand of rods you are looking at are very good but before you purchase an over the counter drop shot rod check out Reel Time Rods. His drop shot rod has a unique eyelet on it for better line management and distance as it comes off the reel and his rods are very sensitive, fantastic warranty, and you can have him customize it how you want. Give him a call and see what he can do for you. He is building me one.

what price range you looking at? The 702 model in all Dobyns rod choices is a great rod! The premium choice is the Champion Extreme, and is super light and sensitive. The Extreme model was designed for finesse/feel type baits and that is what they excel at exponentially!
I have a 702 and just geared it back up to put it back into my arsenal. I am using a Lexa 2500 on it with 20# braid and a 6 pound flouro leader. I may even try to step down to the 701 to have more rod flexibility on that light line. Alberto knot is what I have found to use for my braid-flouro connection.
If I can be of any assistance, or you would like any input from me on d-shot, feel free to PM me. I have a few years of experience (just don't tell anyone that I dropshot!)

I've got a dobyns dx742 I use for dropshots and shakeyheads. It's great but wish I would have gotten the 702 instead.
