Hey guys, my girlfriend wants to go fishing at the coast in February. All of my February fishing has been done in freshwater, and I am not really sure where to go or what to target. I have plenty of inshore light tackle gear, and some surf gear to get out into the 1st and 2nd gut. Pointers?

Just like on the lake it is the best time to catch a really large trout in the bay. Wading protected water with a dark bottom can get your string pulled good.
Surf? Not so much.

Ok, I probably should have mentioned that I am currently boatless and she is not a wader. So basically I need somewhere accessible by non-4X4 SUV and that does not require wading or a boat. That also has a good chance of producing a decent number of fish. Any recommendations inside those parameters?

Honestly? Not without a guide. February is all about timing, and conditions. Right spot now might be garbage in an hour.

The further south the better. Pat is right though conditions change daily or by the min. Fish can be holding in deap water, then move into flats. Without a boat its hard to find fish sometimes. I would look for a area close to deep water, such as jetties. Jetties can hold fish in colder weather. I have seens some eairly big reds come up and start nesting along the beach in late febuary ,but usually that is mid March into April. You just have to go out and wet a line. Last year we got into the drum and sheepheads really heavy a couple of days bank fishing in Febuary. Warmer days fishing along a grass line by a deep channel. You dont know if you dont try. Good luck.

Ditto on a lot of that. Limited out on Reds three weeks ago and have not caught a keeper in 4 trips since. If I were coming to the Corpus area and wanted to fish from shore, some of the places I would try are: - Packery Channel
- Conn Brown Harbor in Aransas Pass (the pier and off the bulkhead in the harbor itself)
- Along either side of Hwy 361, between Port Aransas and Aransas Pass
- Indian Point Pier in Portland
- The Jetties in Port Aransas
- The piers at Red Dot or Cosway on the JFK Causeway (or along the shore in the same area)
Not in any particular order, just some options, depending on where you want to be. It is slow right now , unless you find them. Then it is great! Good Luck

X3 on the above..
Jetties could be an option. The Drum run usually starts about then... cracked crab on the bottom.
