Just bought a used champion with a 2001 Yamaha ox66 200 hp. Do I have to spend the money on Yamalube or can I just use quicksilver or other brands? Experiences? Thoughts?

simple answer is no. Ive been running citgo since 2003 on my yammi. have plenty of friends with yammi and they run whatever is on sale. quicksilver is fine if u want something with more brand recognition. Seems like a lot of people also run the citgo cause they can hardly keep it in stock at my local academy.

Awesome, thanks for the input. I ran citgo in my 79 Evinrude for 6 years, no issues...until the compression went, but I think it was because it had not been rebuilt since early 90s.

If you run the lower price oil make sure to run some ring free thru it on every couple of tanks of fuel. I would also be using Star Tron fuel stabilizer as well. It will make life easier in the long run.

I've run Citgo in my 225. Had quite a bit of carbon build up on the plugs. I would think about 30 hours. Didn't run Ring Free during that period. Had mechanic look at it said he ran the cheapest Walmart brand thru his Merc and burnt clean . I would think that the ring free or sea foam would help

I think the most important factor for that motor is to use it often. I run citgo oil and the cheapest ethanol gas(no ethanol fuels near me), never have added any treatments. But I fish almost every week, sometimes more when the fishing is really good. My boat never sit for any longer than 2 weeks and when its out I run the hell out of it, cause its its just fun. If It died on me today,I would be pleased with its performance, I actually have been wanting to repower with a bigger 4 stroke fora year now, but this engine just wont quit.
