I've had very good success with Gil's 3 dot fabric based stuff. It is what I'd consider middle weight uninsulated rain gear. It is too heavy for the summer. They make a 2 dot fabric based material that is much lighter and works well for when it is hot from what I'm told, but I don't own it yet. They make 5 dot fabric based stuff as well. The Gil stuff is very serious gear with its pedigree being based in off shore sailing.
I think I got my bibs and jacket for around $375 on sale.

Cabela's Guide Wear Gore-Tex is Fantastic. Bought Frogg Toggs first and wasted money. The CGW Gore Tex bid and jacket has kept me warm and dry in all the raining and cold weather. Never liked fishing in the rain and cold, but I'll go anytime now.

I have a set of the H2O bibs and jacket and for the price you can't beat them. I also bought the Frogg Toggs Toadz jacket for work and it's great for the price. I think I prefer it to the H2O jacket. Haven't tried the FT Toadz bib pants.

Are the frog togg toadz like a gore-tex type fabric?

I have cabellas guidwear goretex and thinsulate. Worth every penny!! If you truly want to stay warm and totally dry they will do the job. I have the bibs and parka, I bought them at a big discount because they don't match bibs are blue parka is green but how they look doesn't matter much when its 20 degrees, raining, sleeting and snowing and yes I have been out on the lake when it was doing just that more than once. In the summer if I need then I just strip down and put them on and its not too bad. Save face is another money well spent if you are driving the boat

I've never looked at the high end stuff bass fishermen use, Simms, BassPro. Do those type bibs have latex gaskets around wrists, ankles, waist and neck area to keep you dry if you go in the water? Always thought that you'd be more likely to be swimming than a kayaker flying around the lake at high speeds and especially this time of year when deck gets slick from ice. Wondered why more folks weren't using dry suits. http://www.bombergear.com/bomber-system

No, if you go swimming you're wet.
They do have a really tight neopreme seal around the wrist though that I tested out today when I frozen finger dropped a rod in the water. I hit the deck and grabbed for it and managed to get it before it sunk and my hand was the only thing that got wet and I went in up to the elbow.
