I keep my boat on a lift at the marina, I don't have a trailer. Should I lower by boat into the water to protect the lower unit from freezing just in case of water? It's a 2010 opti 150. I have the motor trimmed down so no water is collected at the prop. Not sure what everyone does or if anything needs to be done. I had an old motor in the 80s and had to replace the lower unit after a hard freeze because it cracked. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

the motor will be fine but you need to make sure there is no water in the live wells or in the lines for them

This for sure.....found out the hard way I busted a livewell valve years back. I didn't notice it until I was 15 miles up a lake from the boat ramp. Fortunately for me I was running a Ranger @ the time and even with the hull full it still floated as if it weren't full of water.......Almost blew the tires out on the trailer when I pulled it out of the water. Tires were fully inflated and half flat........

This morning I raised my motor all the way up and let it drain water, then lowered all the way down and drained water and lower unit oil just to be safe. Hope I remember to put lower unit oil back in next time out!

Put the plug in.
