Hey guys, my dad and I are looking to go on a fishing trip over spring break and I'm looking for suggestions on where to go. We went to broken bow last year and it was decent, but there were roughly 47478382292929 people everywhere you looked. I had been considering Arkansas, but i can't really find a ton of info on particular spots to go to and I was told it would be pretty crowded as well, but I'm sure pretty much everywhere will be slightly crowded that week. Any suggestions are welcome, but I'm looking for somewhere with good trout fishing and relatively affordable lodging. We also don't have a drift boat or anything so somewhere thats wadeable would be preferred. Also looking for somewhere thats a reasonable distance away (AKA no more than a couple days drive)
Thanks for any help in advance! Bob

Not sure if this matches up, but I'm headed to Mountain Home Ark with a fishing buddy on March 20th to attend the Sowbug Roundup. We'll get a little education on these flys, and some on where to wade. The White river will be there, but the Little Red will be on the way back to Texas.
These are tailwaters, so for wading, we will be at the mercy of the damn release schedules. But tailwaters are probably the best option...I won't head for Colorado in the Spring because all the rivers will likely be blown out.
The Sowbug Roundup had lodging options, some with private access to wade fishing.

That's actually the week after my spring break, but I did find a lot of information through the website and other links. definitely seems like Arkansas might be a good possibility. Thanks for the info though! I'm still open to suggestions if anyone else has a good idea

Give blue river a try. Saw some really nice trout caught out of there last week.

GordEn Bryson has a post about the LONE STAR FLYFISHER;S January OUTING ON THE LITTLE Missouri River in Arkansas and it has a loink to Jeff Guerrin's web site. You might want to wander around it for a little while. Jeff has been guiding around there for quite some time. He also gives away much more information than any other guide that I know of. The Queen of Diamonds is a good motel to stay in.

Colorado rivers will NOT be blown out yet in March. The tailwaters in Pueblo, CO (arkansas River) and Taylor Park (Taylor River) will be in fine shape. The main Arkansas River will be primed for BWO as well, and it can be waded with ease. There is about 30-40 miles of public water between Salida and Canon City. I go there about once a month. 11 hours from DFW by car or 1.5 by American Airlines to Col Springs then a 1 hour drive to Canon City. Here is a link to my guys in Canon City http://www.royalgorgeanglers.com/Thousands of fish per mile (Brown and Rainbow 98%, all wild), great scenery, and easy wading.

The Taylor should be on every fly fisherman's -woman's top ten places in the USA to fish before they take a long dirt nap. JR

The Taylor is about another 2 hours from Canon City, but the fish there are amazing. 10lb rainbows and browns on 7x tippet in crystal clear water. Sight fishing paradise. A little challenge to get there, but well worth it. BWO's are big from about mid march thru Mid April on the Arkansas River.

The farther the drive or the hike from civilization, the better the fishing.....generally!
Good luck, I did the Devil's last spring. It was epic.

I would love to go to colorado, might have to do some more research on the area. new mexico also sounds good though. Any particular spots there? My mom and sister decided they were coming along, so at this point I'm now looking for some place where they might have something to do as well and won't be griping at us for fishing all the time.

I have never been, but I have heard Pagosa Springs is great for the women and the fishing. I have it down as one of my "to do" trips sometime.
