I caught a few upstream, but a lot of small ones. On my way back I hit your spot and just mopped up. I kept just over 20 and left them biting. What a day. Nice meeting you, Sam. And nice catch!

It's an hour trip. And that's if you don't get lost.

What were y'all using? I usually try Roadrunners, curly tail spinners, and inline spinners.

I generally use small jigs with black/chart or white/chart body, but I've seen people catch them on small Roadrunners and curly tail grubs.

The Park will restrict access to the public on the following dates in order to conduct wildlife management activities. -Lake Somerville Trailway will close from Friday January 3, 2014 at 5 p.m., until 8 a.m. on Monday January 6.-Birch Creek Unit will close from Monday January 6, 2014 at 5 p.m., until 2 p.m. on Thursday January 9. -Lake Somerville Trailway will close from Monday January 13, 2014 at 5 p.m., until 8 a.m. on Friday January 17. Nephew Harrison and I will be walking into Birch creek Saturday. The boys have done OK on crappie and black bass on two trips out this last week in Nails but since that part of the trailway is closed we will hit Birch creek instead. I focus on catching crappie and know Birch creek pretty well so we should do pretty well if the fish are in there and biting.. yes there will probably be a video or two along with the report

Harrison and I walked way up Birch creek but only managed 1 catfish 1 crappie & 2 black bass. Not much water up in the creek. Left around 2:30pm but would have stayed a little longer if a couple of guys hadn't had the honey hole locked up already. Not sure it would have mattered much but the weather and fishing forecast were about to line up for something good...
