If im passenger I lift my butt off the seat when its rough , if im driving I slow down . It also depends if were in my Champion or his Ranger ( stir that pot) OMG! That's the funniest thing I've ever heard! I had a 2006 Ranger Z20 and my partner cussed me and that boat very time we got into the slightest chop. We so speared half a dozen 3'-ers coming back into Humphrey's on Rayburn back in February and we got absolutely soaked. Now I will say that everyone tells me the Z20 and Z21 were Ranger's only mistakes and that their 520 & 521 were MUCH better. It stinks that the Z20 was the first and only "Rain-ger" (my partner started calling it that because we got so wet...lol) that I bought because it ruined me on them. I already had two bad disks in my lower back so I was hurting already, but the ride in that Z20 was terrible. Just a quick side comment and not meaning to Hi-Jack the thread. But I don't know about the 520 being a Better Boat. I rode as a Co-Angler in an Everstart on Rayburn in a 520 from Umphry's to 147 Bridge. Worst ride I had ever had! In fact I told the boater on the way back "We are not gonna HURT each other this time! ARE WE! as I motioned reaching over to his Gonads!!!" I even asked him if he wanted ME to drive back!!! It was a combination of the Boat and the Lack of Boating Skills of the Driver!

Get a Legend boat and you will be fine! I am going to have surgery on my lower back soon also...the doc said I would be walking the same day... hopefully I will be in the boat within a week.

I fought this battle for a while in my 30's when I was really heavy into tournament fishing so I was on the water a lot. I didn't have surgery but battled a sore lower back for a while. In rough water I'd stand up behind the console and bend my knees so they would absorb the wave impact. If you are fishing with someone in a duel console boat this will work. Also you can just put your hands on the seat next to your hips and lift your self off of the seat. On a smooth day also be aware of boat wakes.........

it was pounding in a boat on a very rough day that caused my compressed disk. be careful when the waves get up.

It is best to watch it Fish Fishburn had to quit tournament fishing due to back injuries. But I found out few weeks ago when I rent to the Dr. about my hip the x=ray showed I had had a fractured pelvis and 2 fractured disk sometime. I have no idea when I did it but he said they were old fractures. I have had bass boats since 1968 but it may have been from one of my many racing accidents.

My orthopedic surgeon said NO fishing period, for 4 months, then no boat operation for another month. Had to use the back brace for the first month of fishing and boat operation.

I had same surgery. I waited about a month before I went. And it was a little unnerving as I was still in some pain. Worst for me was the cross wind rocking the boat. Doesn't take much but it definitely changes ur posture. Riding while running wasn't bad. As directed lift up ur rear on rough spots.

I tried to come back from c-4,5,6 disk injury too soon. (One month after surgery. I needed to get out). A couple jarring bumps sent shooting pain down my spine. Now, 15 yrs later I still hurt some days. Last two days have been bad. I can't move my neck, but I have to go tomorrow.
Don't go too soon. Good luck.

Sympathize with that. Have 5 herniated discs now! Started with one, got worse retired and now, since buying bass boat have come to realize I don't go on windy days, i.e., waves, and I go SLOW unless it's glass smooth. But, I have 17'10" Stratos and only 90 HP Evinrude so I'm not going anywhere anytime over 40mph. But, I'm not in any big hurry unless it comes to getting off of the lake in case of emergency. Take it slow, avoid windy days, use a cushion if you find it helps. Seems getting down into a seat or whatever is no problem, it's the getting up part! Take care, enjoy the moments....make it fun

I have Spinal Stenosis and have had two surgeries that just marginally helped. I have just accepted the fact that my back is trashed and deal with it daily. I chop the throttle if I see even medium waves heading my way. I have seen an air suspension seat for behind the wheel but have no idea if it would cushion the ride or not.
