Welcome to the site, I haven't used buck tails, but have used Maribu jigs with good results. I am fishing Galveston and that bay, so it might be different, but I doubt it.

I liked white with red highlights, and chartreuse works good too.

Give one of our red/white glow bucktails a try with a gulp alive tail.

Being from the People's Republic of Massachusetts, I still have my striped bass and bluefish surfbag. Many of the lures that I use in the surf down here (Mustang Island) get me puzzled looks by native Texans. One of my most productive is a standard 1oz red/white bucktail with a curly tail. These killed the stripers up in the North Atlantic, and the Redfish and black drum down here love them too!

I think a bucktail jig will catch fish just about anywhere. As a kid fishing salt water every day, my go-to lures were a yellow Upperman jig and a chrome Reflecto Spoon. Between those two lures I caught virtually every inshore species (and some offshore) that south Florida had to offer.
