 Lowrance hds 5 PROBLEMS!!!!

I need help. First of all I am not a tech guy but before my dad and I go buy something else I thought I would post for help.
The screen will work fine and then all of a sudden the screen will get all colorful, stop working, and then change to weird blocks….. a minute will pass and then it will work again for a while. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!! We have done the reset with no help.
Any suggestions?

Which reset did you do soft or hard? Do you have the latest software downloaded into the unit?
You might also consider an autoconfig.

Hard, It has been doing it ever since we had the boat. The boat is now a couple years old and we bought it new.
