I went for a nature hike with the family to meridian state park yesterday .
I asked the other half if I could bring a ketchn pole ....just in case
she gave me a sideways look and started to ask what is wrong with you ....
before she could say no I put a 2 pc in the trunk with a few jigs
now if you are familiar with the lakes that are productive for crappie
you know this is one of the poorest in the state ...
its very difficult to ketch one there , lots a small black bass
herds a bream and catfish , but the crappie ...almost nada ....
and always my goal if I visit there is to just ketchn one crappie
well when we got there before she knew what to say or do I said hey baby ....
with my gorgeous silver tongue best sweety voice ....maybe just 10 minutes on the dock ?
she reluctantly said ok ok ....BUT ONLY 10 MINUTES ....

well I did my best winter dead stick thing they have been teaching me
I cant hold a jig very still ...I so want to jig my jig .....
the lake was down terribly from my last visit .
the ramp was closed and way out of the water
it seemed to be 5 to 6 foot lower than my last visit a while back
the ketchn dock is in deep water so it had about 10 fow under it
but it seemed to hold NO FISH .....
couldn't get a peck , the water is rather clear
I changed bait color still nada
she came down and informed me my time was up ....
with a slight frown I mite just add

so as I leave the dock reluctantly and head up the steep catwalk
I think well maybe I just pitch it to the wind swept ramp area one time ?
I can probably ketch a black bass if I toss it there
any available bait will be getting pushed rite into that spot from the howlin wind
I pitch it over there ....let my 1/32 sink ...I pick it up to work it back to me
NO WAY ....a crappie on my jig !!!
I tell ya divine intervention had a part in that one yawl
it wasn't but 5 or 6 foot deep with no structure ....
but I think there was a slight drop off and it was just off it
KABOOM my one lil crappie ....

You should have brought 2 rigs and taught her your technic! Way to go

now a quick look at the fish tells the full story
nothing in the belly , the lake is void of shad
bream are the forage fish as well as crappie I imagine
at least it wasn't a skunk I suppose ...
I made one more toss after pleading with her to try another pitch
she had to come down the ramp to see the fish
I aint sure if she or me was more surprised I mananged a crappie
I got a slight double hit on the last toss and mist the hook set ...
that's my story and I am ....you know
now by the way ...did you know lichen tells the story of air quality ?
lichen (the green stuff growing on tree bark) cannot tolerate air pollution
and they got some trophy Texas sized lichen down in them parts ...

she does ketch with me sometimes ....but she wasn't in no mood for it yesterday
I thunk I probably could a got her to if I pushed it ....but when I said hey my sweety ....hehehe
want me to bring your rod also ?....I got a rather firm NO
no wanting to push my luck to terribly far ....
I conceded to carry just my lil Berkley cherrywood 7 foot 2 pc
