I am getting ready to replace the fuel line on my 1998 225HP Johnson venom and just wanted to get the right type on it. At a local marine store they have the black A1 line and the gray with blue lettering which is B1 I believe. They were telling me most people run the black line to the primer bulb, then the gray line from the bulb to the engine. Is this correct?
Im also looking to install a fuel filter/water separator on the engine. I was wandering what filter would be a good one to run on this engine and will that restrict the fuel flow too much?
Thanks and Happy New Years everyone.

Yes....a lot of people run the thicker black hose from the tank To the primer bulb....it tends to snake more on its path to the engine and therefore resists kinks better then the gray stuff....as for a fuel / water filter just a standard size one will do.....as long as you maintain it annually it will not cause any fuel restrictions ....hope this helps

Thank you for the reply. So, is there a negative to also using the black hose from the bulb to the engine?

I don't think resisting kinks is as big an issue as resisting ethanol and that's what I would go for. As far as a fuel/water separator, that's a worthwhile addition as ethanol gas does cause moisture to accumulate in the fuel tank. Racor is the best and they are less than $100 in most places. The one with the clear plastic globe lets you see when water has accumulated so you can drain it off. My filter is going on two years and looks new. I had my tank dumped and cleaned when I bough the boat, so nothing but clean fuel has hit since I've owned it. You should not see any fuel restriction using one of these, and even if you did, the benefit far outweighs the problems caused by dirty fuel or water in it.
