I was scanning the lake for catfish and came across this, looks to me like a whole lot of fish, so i anchored down and dropped some cut bait but didnt get a single bite. Can someone help determine what kind of fish this was, or what did i do wrong?

I cant tell what kind but that is lots of fish. Maybe Stripper ? It really looks to spread out to be Strippers IMO. Who knows. They look to be pretty good size also. Nice picture.

I've ran into those before at Lewisville at the cove area. Dropped my lines and not a single bite. Tried lures and jigs with same result. I'm going to guess might be gizzard shads. I'm still learning to understand what I'm looking at. Perhaps some experts on here can clarify this.

Catfish are much lighter than than that on side scan they usually just show up as little lines because all it picks up is the bones and too many distinct shadows which mean dense fish, they are dinging a 5 to 10 ft arc in my learning the side scan that's a school of gar between 2 and 5ft roughly 50 percent of the arc .
OFF TOPIC but may be helpful
If you pay attention to the size of the fish your catching to the size of the dings you can call what your gonna catch most of the time. I watched a show a while ago where the guides up north use regular sonar to see wether the fish are moving up or down river, so they could rig and present the bait properly . They were looking at the graph showing the head and how the body followed on standard color lowrance 522c the spot would be red ...
