Although I haven't been fishing for a week, I have been watching the Lake delta reports! The Corp is releasing 9,ooo cft of water creating a hefty current. There is a lot of water coming in from the Sulpher River, flooding conditions @ hwy 67 bridge near Naples, reported. I rode the motorcycle today to check the spillway and it was "rolling". I then rode to the hwy67 bridge to check it and the river is FULL and a lot of current. I would guess there could be some fish to be caught below the spillway in the cove @ Sulpher point. All of this (current and incoming water) is putting a damper on my catching! I have another 8 days from work and going to have to come up with a game plan.....

Same in big creek and herron. Did manage two crappie and three yellow bass in big creek. Lot of current and looks like a load of chocolate milk got dumped in the creek. Some crappie are being caught off the Red water bridge in the evening.

I am not sure of the construction of the barge as the bait shop area has been abandon for quite a while. The ramp across from the cove is in good shape and just a trolling motor away. I may launch there tomorrow or Wednesday.

I missed the good ole spillway fishing days. They have not let any water out of Joe Pool for at least a year. The lake never fills up. frown

The Corp is cutting back the gates! There may be some better fishing in the upper Sulpher River channel? I have not been due to water conditions "ie" current and water pressure... I have a few Condos waiting for me, that I dropped 5 weeks ago. I hope they didn't get swept away? I am hope'ng to go Thursday, if the Corp continues to shut the gates.

Ive tried big creek a couple times and every time I've been I've caught tons of sandbass, but only caught one crappie. Hoping more crappie show up as it clears up.

You might want to try Mauldon area or the river channel, this time of year!

I would get a boat in the water, and fish around it (the barge) plus any eddies (key on them) I could find close to it...the trees off the left side of the barge (as you are looking at it from the bank) were killer during these times...I caught my first crappie there (5yrs old) then my first limit there (6yrs old) during just the release situation you are describing...cutting the water flow back a bit after a rolling water event...basically, after that I would never miss a crappie fishing opportunity during such a release from then on...regardless of the time of year. If you get the chance, please PM me and let me know how you did.

Sad, dang it...time sure gets away...Thanks for the info...say, did they fill in the hole and clean out the stumps/nearby trees?

No they didn't That whole area looks like a forest now it has grew up so bad. Spillway gates kept closed for the most part now so never much water below the spillway, so no water in the "old river bed" where the barge was located. I miss that barge too. i have caught many limits there.
