A lot of good information here but I have a question...
I was told that crappie will SHRINK when put on ice instead of a live well or basket in the water. IS THIS TRUE?? If so, that would mean that I can catch and measure a 10" crappie and if the warden stops me my fish would be under and I would get a ticket! Anyone heard of this or know if it is true. I will try to measure a few next outing myself to check as well. I always keep my fish in a live well or basket in the water until I'm ready to leave the lake. I always dream that I am going to catch bigger fish and need to cull what I have caught. In a basket, they will beat the end of their tail off and definitely lose some length. If you put one that measures exactly 10" in a basket, you're risking a ticket if the game warden checks you and they've been in there for a while. The game warden won't care that they were 10" when you put them in there.

We need the local game wardens cell number. Then when we see the ones catching and keeping the dinks we can shoot the gw a text. The fishing would probably start getting better if the little ones were allowed to grow up.

The game warden won't care that they were 10" when you put them in there. Didn't realize that. Guess I need to start keeping 10 1/4" instead of 10". I have never had a gm check my fish. I have had them check my boat only once. I've been fishing for over 60 years so gm's have never been a concern of mine. The one that checked my boat told me my flares were out of date and to buy some new ones the next time I went to Wal-mart. No ticket, just verbal advice. I do talk with them at the dock over the years, as they have often kept their boats at the docks where I kept my boats. I have also talked with them at launch areas but never had one check my boat at the launch.

Didn't know you needed flares for the boat. What else besides life jackets and fire extinguisher is required?

Maybe that's why he only told me to get new flares for the flare gun at wal-mart instead of writing a ticket or warning. I always have a flare gun on boat. It's good for signaling for help and can be used for other things if absolutely required. I don't believe a paddle is required in Texas. I hope not, as I don't have one for my pontoon. Can you imagine trying to paddle a pontoon anywhere?

After reading the thread it appears nobody cared to do the math, muchless consider how much more of a power trippin rookie that bird sheriff was to write out 165 sportsman's awards. It takes 10-12 min to fill out each ticket(says my neighbor two houses down) The rest of what he also added is not permissible per TFF TOS,suffice to say the BS flag is at full mast on this fish story. It's been dink fest for the most part. Every once in while we will limit. But some days it's 1-5 keepers, some days but not often, we catch over 15 - 30 keepers. Not worth my time at WRC. Drought is killing me. Might be guiding blue cats next winter if this keeps up. Trout in Beavers Bend have been keeping me busy in the meantime. So there is a quick update of the creek. To many dinks and to many shad in the water. On a great note. Game Warden Martin handed out an unbelievable amount of tickets at White Rock Creek two nights ago. 165 citations 146 crappie that were under sized with 3 being legal out of all the people cited. One guy had "50" crappie and he was the only one with three legal crappie. The rest were an average of 5-8 inches. Martin gave this gentleman, 50 tickets. Helps when he lives right around be corner from the creek.

165 violations. Some people got multiple violations per citation.
So sorry worded it wrong.
I don't think 165 different people even fish White Rock Creek in a week.
Go fishing instead of picking on me. It makes me feel bad.

I have never had a problem with a GW either. Do you think possibly it is the attitude of the person in question? 165 violations. Some people got multiple violations per citation.

Go fishing instead of picking on me. It makes me feel bad. Christmas day the numbers were approaching 165 when I drove by Lather Drive. Does the GW ever site someone for littering? That problem runs rampant everywhere. Thanks for the report TarponFly.

Every Game Warden I've ever met was courteous and helpful...I'm glad to have my tax dollars supporting them. X2! I'm always happy to see these men and women out doing their jobs. If you meet one of these folks on the water, simply ask them for one of their cards or get a cell number from them and enter it in your phone. Game wardens can be a lot of help in an emergency, too. And if you are worried that a 10" crappie may shrink to non-legal size in the cooler or basket, just don't keep 10" fish. Try a piece of contrasting color electrical tape wrapped around your rod 10 1/2" above the grip. If I need to measure carefully to make a fish reach the mark, I'll toss it back in the drink. There are always more out there that are larger. I hope all of you have a happy and safe New Year's eve and are looking forward to more angling adventures in 2014!

Every game warden's state issued phone number Is listed on the Texas Parks & Wildlife website by county.....best way to get their name and phone number.
I have never had a problem with any of the ones I have met either. I am glad they are out there helping to protect us and our resources from those who don't think the laws apply to them.
