Vic Ramsey (Ray Hubbard Guide back in the 60's and 70's)

His most memorable statement to me was, "That fish don't have any hands, when you feel a bite, set the $%!@* hook". After several comments by me, when I was 18-19 years old, stating that "I think I have a bite" while teaching me how to worm fish, he laughed and made that statement.

Great fisherman and many fond memories of him on lake Ray Hubbard!!

Thanks,
Charlie Davis

I had a little tackle box with some worms in it and a few spinnerbaits from watching the old Jimmy Houston shows that I used when fishing some old ponds with some buddies I played fast pitch softball with. Didn't have much time to fish with all of the softball tournaments but loved fishing. My dad bought a place down at Whitney and then got a stick steering boat and one weekend he said come on bring your gear and let's go fishing. Never had been fishing with my dad before. I only had a couple of rod and reels he had bought me and when we got out on the lake he said "hand me that rod you have that spinnerbait on." I handed it to him and for the next few hours I watched my dad in amazement cover those rocky shorelines with that spinnerbait catching fish after fish. I couldn't even speak I was so blown away with how he covered water and concentrated on even the slightest ripple in the water that might be giving away a fishes location. I couldn't have been any more impressed if it would have been Jimmy Houston himself in the boat.
Some 20 years later when I finally retired from playing ball and started bass fishing I always have a spinnerbait tied on and draw on the memory of my dad and how excited he got me regarding that bait and how as a young teenager I found such pride and respect for my dad in that first of many trips together and how I cherish a picture I have of him today with the biggest bass her ever caught with me on our last Fork trip together.
