Not great, but then again not a bad day on the river. I didn't get to the launch until 10:30 and found murky 44° water. Didn't look promising, but hey this is the Brazos, not some cold hopeless metro lake so hey there's always a chance right? I was actually hoping to use some jerk baits in that clear river water but it wasn't meant to be. Wasn't chocolate milk exactly, but close. More of a chai tea with a dash of amaretto. Tried moving baits: wiggle wart, 1.5, and a chatterbait with no takers. Ok, so they wanted something slow. The bigger senko with glass bead and clacker and a hair jig tipped with real pork was what worked for me, both in black... Caught 7 total. 3 came from the 'big' hole that I thought would produce, but the other four were in pretty nondescript areas. You just had to find spots deeper than five feet with some cover.

Beautiful place... Now it's back to prefishing Grapevine... whip cry

What stretch is this? I still haven't had a chance to fish the Brazos.

very nice bud, let me know when you want to go back to Grapevine. I'm going to invite the Grapevine BASS Professor Mr. Pelican to show us how it's done.

Awesome. I really need to get up there sometime. I just don't know much about that river and it's a pretty good hual from college station to go in unprepared. Can you paddle down and back up from the dam?

What were the water temps, Tom?

Aggie14: You can put in at the dam, paddle down and back. There is also a livery service/canoe rental at Dicks Outpost which is about 7 miles downstream from the dam. (Google 'Dicks Outpost Brazos' for their website and info.). He will shuttle you for 30 bucks I think. You can also put in at his ramp and paddle either up or down and back.

Louis water temps started at 44 but I found them later as high as 49 in some spots. There are some springs that feed the river in some places and it seems like it was warmer in front of these areas. Then again it may have been just the amount of sunlight they were receiving.
