Try starting with plastic worms, some worm hooks, and a pack of 1/4 bullet weights. T-rig the worm and build confidence it catching bass. Also don't be afraid to experiment with other things.

The old standbyes, jig, worm, spinnerbait, shallow/medium crankbait. Get some confidence and then branch out, knowing you can always catch some on the old standbyes.

Wow, that's wide open...
Narrowing to this time of year I'd look to slower presentations. Fat worms & creature baits and jigs & bulky trailers.
Bass in colder water are looking for max calories for minimal effort. The trick is getting the max calories in front of them.
There are always the reaction strikes (fast moving baits) that get hit in colder water but they are usually the younger, spunky bass.
Now that's a "generalization". Chit changes all the time.
Good luck! Karl

Depending on how many bucks ya got! Like any other hobby or sport adds up fast. Watch for the sales, buy what you need or use all the time. Like what everybody else said experiment and practice and what works for you. All this stuff is addicting!

Can not go wrong with 3/16 oz weight and green pumpkin or blue fleck 7" power worm. Use a 3/0 gamakatsu hook and your ready to roll.

Get a 1/4 oz bone color Yellow Magic, A shad color square bill, a silver color Rat-L-Trap, a bag of black/blue worms, and a bag of watermelon/red baby brush hogs. For good measure throw in a white chatterbait. Get some worm hooks/weights and go have fun.

And I would add Watermelon or Green Pumpkin Straight tail worm and/or Senko's (Wacky rig with just plain hook).
