Is it going to work as long as I use a moisture barrier?

how stable is your slab? do you have any cracks that are offset (one side little higher than the other)? glue down is the only way wood on slab will work, you can't nail it like a subfloor application.

I am thinking about going with the top picture, instead of gluing down
I only have 2 doors so the added height should not be a problem
the slab is ok in this room, a few cracks

Why not use engineered wood flooring? It would be a whole lot easier and would make the transition to other flooring easier.

the plywood sleeper system will work but I agree with the engineered laminate, much easier and cheaper and you can get the same look.

Nail down the 5/8 plywood and have REAL hardwoods. Only way i would recommend. Seen way too many problems with glue down floors. Plus they just look cheap.

Sure, cheap flooring looks cheap. Nothing cheap looking about the quality engineered wood flooring.

Check the slab with a straight edge float out any swells or humps with floor patch. Use a good polyurethane adhesive and you'll be fine. This is how we install engineered hardwoods over slabs they look great.

This is how our new custom home was done. Working fine so far, about a year in.

I have engineered wood. My ex would have nothing to do with laminate and I did not like the look. I did not want to deal with the tile and carpet transitions with plywood and real wood.

I'm about to do this too. Had my foundation fixed and the floor in my kitchen has no flooring where they poured new concrete. Strongly considering taking the wood floors out of a 100 year old barn on my property and using it in my kitchen. Going to do it the plywood way
