I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.
I got my son a Pinnacle UL Spinning Reel for Christmas. For $20, its not a bad reel.
We tried it out at the local bayou. He was a natural at the reel and he caught 3 rios and 1 green sunnie. But he also lost a few.
I want to upgrade his UL soft plastics with some good 'scented' ones (to get the fish more aroused). What's some good soft plastics to have?
All we have are 'no-name' brand grubs and tubes. The grubs work great, the tubes are not so great.

I know this is not the answer you are looking for but I, myself, catch far more fish on night crawlers that jigs. But I don't throw plastics a lot because I have no confidence in them.

Gulp alive jigging grubs in chartreuse have out more fish on the ruler than I can count, along with the minnows in 1" in pearl white or chart. too. The best part is that these are not restricted to sunfish, bass and cats love them just as much!

Oh yeah, Live nightcrawlers are indeed the best bait. However, it tends to be a bit of hassle having to go to Academy each time to get some, only for them to die after a few hours. Plus, I fish with lures 99% of the time now and I want my son to gain confidence in it as well.

I usually use night crawlers most of the time on Sunfish. When I do use soft plastics I love the Berkley products. The power grubs yellow, black, and green work good along with the double tail grub in Chartreuse. I also love the gulp alive products. Berkley Trout worms in natural color work good also.

I don't fish for Sunfish but love reading about em. For what I have been seeing on this forum the curly tail grubs are very popular with a lot of the anglers who post here.

White and chartreuse grubs, 1" minnows in watermelon pearl and pink maggots are my favorites.

Berkley Curly Tail Grubs! They are best soft plastics for Sunfish. Just my two cents.

If you want the very best . I have never struck out with zoom brushhog in the "tiny" size
watermelon/green my 12 year old nephew swears by them. We fish them texas rigged weightless or when you need a little more distance a small bullet weight does the trick.

The best scented, saturate the water baits are Gulp! Alive! baits. They are a must have in any bream anglers tackle box. I like the hellgrammites the most in olive/black. If you want good grubs, look at southern Pro Hot Grubs and Triple Tip grubs. They also make a killer hollow body tube. Yum makes some killer beaver tail grubs and other bream size creatures. I've started to stock up on Strike King's new ( to me) panfish baits. Really liking the Joker baits. BPS has some great new (to me) panfish baits. Haven't checked out Cabela's yet. Big Bites Baits still makes a relatively good bait at a reasonable price. Might go that way.
