Lots of us this time of year do it and go through nets like crazy. This may help save a net or two. Bring a tarp, tie rope or coard to the bottom corners of the tarp but keep them in hand. Drape the tarp over the bank you will be throwing and pulling the net up. After you throw the net pull it to the tarponce you get it to the tarp, pull the coards attached to the tarp. This picks tarp up from the bottom and acts like a protective shield for your net, not to mention when you get a ton of shad in there it helps pull it up. Im not saying every net will be saved just eliminating the creek bank as an obsticle. Give it a try.

hmmmm. I might have to try this . I was at white rock yesterday and lost one. I searched and searched for the shad as they were scattered and finally found some nice ones. Then I got greedy and lost my net on my next throw. Some nice guys in a canoe came by and tried to help but it was done for. I made it a year!!

I rarely lose my net bc I pull until it tears a hole in the net, then I patch it up.

You obviously haven't been to the creek

Have lost a few nets myself. Some on the same day I got them... That is throwing in the lake, not many creeks in central Texas have water in them. But that does sound like a great idea.

For us we get half of our tears trying to fight a heavy castnet full of shad from the waterline to the bank. This helps with weight and protects agenst the roots and sticks that all wanna reach out and grab a net.
