Heading to Falcon on Friday. Backseating instad of taking my boat so I have to figure out what to bring. Word is the fish are all shallow. What recommendations do you guys have on what to bring if limited to maybe 5-7 rods? Line recommendations?

Sounds like spinnerbaits are the best bait now, but what else should I be bringing?

Appreciate the advice! Reports are fishing is slow (water in the 50's) but 1 good bite can make your day.

Thanks

Rod # 1 65 lb braid for a spinnerbait

Rod # 2 25 lb fluoro for a lipless crank

Rod # 3 65 lb braid with a 40 lb fluoro 2ft leader for t-rigs......1/4 oz to 1/8 oz sinkers. (plastics of late have been VERY slow)

I fished for an hour or so with the Mrs. and kids today. I hit a creek on the North end here and found 62.4 degree water. (I was surprised.....was expecting 50's after last nights air temps 30's)

Good luck on your trip! and yes bring your patience, but I think you already have a good idea of what to expect by the sounds of it.

I say bring what you normally fish with as long as you normally use at least 15lb fluoro. When I was down at falcon I flipped with 20lb red label and never had an issue. caught some big fish too. Before I went everyone was telling me I had to buy new flipping sticks and use 1000lb test line and use monster baits and such. We caught all of our fish (aprox 350 in 3 days and up to just shy of 10lbs) on our normal 7ft rods (my main rod was a powell 705). Tried 50lb powerpro but seemed to get more bites on the red label

you were fortunate to say the least Javelin.....flipping with 20 lb fluoro will get your feelings hurt down here. Trust me....I've seen it more times than I care to remember.

705 CEF. The Powell 7' Mag-Heavy Casting Rod is an ideal rod for pitching jigs, plastics, or senkos in or around tight areas. This rod has the power to pull fish out of any type of structure yet it allows you to make precise casts to a specific target.

....and your Powell was anything, BUT a fairy wand. Nice stick for down here no doubt.....have a few myself.

Bring something to cut the gill nets loose from you boaters lower unit. He may apprecieate it. Other than that you might pack along a repair kit for your spinnerbaits. They can take a beating and a few extra blades and parts and pieces can make your day.

Headed to Falcon for the first time next week for New Year's Day. Where is the best place to stay? Is there any trailer like Patch's at Amistad?

Also any bait or pattern information would be greatly appreciated.

it also makes good sense to take a spare prop if you have one.its a long trip better to be prepaired
