Hey guys I'm in Sacramento Cali for a week and would love to get away from the inlaws and fish. Does anyone know where I might be able to catch some fish?

You have Lake Amador, Comanche and Pardee about 45 minutes from Sacramento. All great places to fish.

Rancho Seco Lake is a stones throw from you.Great bank access,no power boats allowed.Fishing is very tough as bass are spooky, but with stealth and finesse technigues bass to 15lbs are possible. You are also only 30 mins. from the best fishery in the great state of Cali....the CA DELTA!!Google earth the area and you will see that a quick trip down the 5 puts you in paradise.Let me know if you need more info. Regards..Mike

Thanks for the info guys, Folsom is right down the street but I thought it only had salmon in it. Since I will be bank fishing is the Cali delta even an option?

Bank fishing is very easy in the north and east delta.Go onto google earth and look up Wimpys Marina and New Hope Marina in Thornton CA.Both these marinas have websites as well. You have to drive from spot to spot to bank fish but that will allow you to explore the wonderful environment. If you do not mind driving about 20 min. furthur down I5 you will be near West Eight Mile Rd. on the north edge of Stockton.Go west on 8 mile rd off of I5 and continue west. You will cross over numerous low water bridges and the sloughs beneath them are easily accessible from the bank. This area of the Delta is one of my favorites.Google Earth is your best resource(othet than me)as all is mapped out very plainly. When you search Google Earth keep these keywords in mind....Dissappointment Slough,Whites Slough,Paradise Point Marina,Hog,Beaver, and Sycamore slough. Please do yourself a favor and visit the Delta...you will hate yourself if you don't.Let me know if you need more help.

Great tip on Folsom as well.It is indeed very close and very beautiful.Only problem is the water is crazy loooooow!Access may be very difficult and most marinas are now closed.Thats the nice thing about the Delta, the water generally only fluctuates due to daily tidal movements. If you have no boat with you,Paradise Point Marina in north Stockton has basic fishing boat rentals....maybe even an off season rate.Check out their website.Regards...Mike

Thanks guys I think I'll be fishing the delta sometime this week, I didn't bring any gear so ill probably just go get an Allstar rod and a black max reel that I can leave at the inlaws place and no have to worry about it being taken care of. Should I plan on throwing tx rig this time of year or weight less or even crank baits? I have never fished this part of the county so I'm not sure what stage the fish are in .

Great choice,I'm excited for you!The same holds true for our Cali. waters as it does nationwide this time of year. The water will be cold and bass sluggish.Soft plastics fished slowly(even deadsticking). Also try shallow running cranks in red or craw colors.Red is an amazing color on the Dirty D.My #1 choice here in the winter is dropshoting very slowly. You are limited from the bank but can still probably reach outside weedlines, concentrate on those areas.Even though the weed growth is limited in winter, you will be amazed at the amount of vegetation. Both floating and submerged weeds are EVERYWHERE.This will reguire heavier setups which should not be foreign to you Texas guys.Don't be afraid of 100% braid. That's all I use.The senko is truly magical on the D.Try it T-rigged,weightless,and wacky.I'm a big bait guy and usually opt for larger sizes of everything.I checked the Paradise Point website and they do have great off season rates on alum. fishing boats.Do yourself a favor and think about it.When will you be in the Sacto area?Hit me up when you are here as I'm alwats pumped to talk Delta fishing.Regards....Mike

Just noticed in your post that you are fishing this week.I own a waterfront vacation rental on Bethel Island and will be there all weekend. That's another hour south of the recommendations I gave you but if you get a wild hair call me.Bethel Island is most definitely the center of the bass world in the Big D.Feel free to call me at 530-681-9587.Regards...Mike

You are an hour and a half from Clearlake. North on I-5 and West on Hwy 20. This will take you right down into Clearlake Oaks. Stop in at Limit-Out tackle and talk with Bob. There are lots of places to bank fish where you are able to catch somthing.
