Does anyone run Lowrance's Structure Scan on their kayaks? I am upgrading my electronics this winter and have been looking around. I love my Lowrance and its controls, but I would like to get side scan. If you have it can you share your transducer mount pics and what model unit your running. Also how long can you run on a charge. I run my little Lowrance Elite 4 DSI for several multi hour trips before I recharge it. I was just curious on run time because you have to run power to the Structure Scan unit along with the larger display unit.

Personally I think its best to hummingbird if you want side scan so that you only have one transducer to mess with. But if you run two then I guess one in the hull and sidescan outside. I run mine on the back of my yak. Alot of guys run something similar to this or the arm mount things.

These pics are of my HB 798. I have since upgraded to a HDS7 LSSHD. I use the same anal plug install and the second transducer is in the lowrance ready position that Hobie puts on the PA14.
What kind of yak do you use? If you go with the touch HDS units the LSS unit is built into the unit and I believe they only have 1 transducer. Give us more details so we can give you ideas for your install

The froggear TDA or the Ram TDA are going to be your best options unless you don't use a rudder and you can build something like Mike uses or maybe sweet talk Red into making you one. I would also consider some yak attack gear trac and maybe even one of Luther's CellBlock. If you send him the $35 today you can be a beta tester for him

The new Lowrance units have the structure scan built into the head unit but you do need two transducers. I've run both bird and lowrance units and prefer the lowrance because I believe the 2D sonar is better and makes up for the addition of the extra transducer. Even thought the LSS2 transducer is about the size of a shoe.

The out the back set ups guys have are very slick. I've never run them that way for fear of loading / unloading and what if you bump something and need to adjust the angle of the transducer on the water.

On my new Lowrance HDS touch unit I'm running a ram transducer mount over the side connected to a ram ball that sits on a piece of gear track. I bought two brackets that hold both the regular transducer and the giant size LSS2 transducer. I plan on fabricating a new aluminum rod and will hold both transducers over the side. Clearly a lot of drag, but it's really easy on the ram ball to flip both out of the water if you're going to run a mile or two and the GPS will still work.

There is a guy in Austin called Chris Coufal that runs a Lowrance 10. He knows a lot about what you are asking. Let me see if I can get him to post up some pics.

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Curious as to where you ran the wires.

Michael, that is a small Stainless Steel spring from a CB radio antenna and a 3/8 brass rod cut to length and threaded. All the nuts and screws are SS also.
Let me know if you have other questions.

here are a few pics of mine. I run an HDS10 with structure scan. I like to use the ScanStrut fittings for the wiring.
