Can anyone recommend a peacock bass guide near Miami, Florida? Going to The Keys for my honeymoon and the future wife wants to do some fishing. We go offshore quite a bit and want to fish for something different like peacock bass and snakehead.
Thanks!

Good friend of mine probably catches as many peacokcs as anyone down there on fly rod. Leave him a message (rarely answers phone) and ask how the fishing is. http://www.bonefishwhisperer.com/species/

Thanks man! I'll give him a call. I'll actually be packing my 8wt...a peacock or snakehead on the fly would be grand.

I lived there (Homestead AFB) for 4 years in the late 80's early 90's when the Peacock Bass were just taking off. The canals in Dade County are loaded with them. Roland Martin filmed a show when I lived there at Miami International Airport Lake. I went out there after that and had decent luck on them, but better luck on the LMB. If you can find a guide for that lake, its probably your best chance for a monster Peacock. They are fun to catch!! They hit like a LMB with a 50 Horse Merc strapped to its [censored]. Used to have my best luck catching them on jerkbaits back then. I heard that the cold snaps down in South Florida killed off a lot of them a few years ago though.

Caught tons of PB's when I lived in Hawaii. They are by far the hardest fighting fish I have ever caught. If anyone ever goes to Hawaii on vacation, let me know. I can put you into contact with a friend of mine that guides for PB's, largemouth, and bonefish. He was actually on the first season of the "Top Hooker" that aired on the animal planet. His name is Chris Wright and he cans definitely put you on some fish! Here is my personal best peacock I caught during a tournament. First cast on a citrus shad fat free shad. Contact Captain Roger Gonzalez of Miami (786-663-4368 or rogerg@bassonline.com ). He has access to some private rock quarry lakes where the peacocks get much bigger than in the canals. Week before we were there he had an 8 lb class peacock and said they get upwards of 9 lbs. and the largemouth up to ???? Caught this largemouth and peacock off the same rocky point. We had four peacocks in this class that day. They fight like a smallmouth on steroids. When you lip em, hold on tight. They have much rougher mouths than a bass and shake like crazy (should've used the Boga Grip!!)

I would highly recommend Frank Carbone, have been with him on four trips back in 2008 to 2010, was never disappointed even when the winds blew 40mph. Frank Carbones HawgHunter Guide Service Evening: 954-424-7286 Cell: 954-325-1115 www.hawghunterguideservice.com
