I have been having a heck of a time catching lunkers, and finally got my first texas bass over 5lbs on friday...
My pb caught in CO is 5 lbs 6 oz, and I am just kinda wondering how much stronger fish over 8lbs really are compared to a 5 pounder...
I know it is subjective and each fish is gonna be a different battle, but that 5lb fish I got on friday fought like a mule...

Ive had some 5# bass that could make you think you had a whale other times Ive seen 8# fish nearly come crawl in the boat with you then the next time it could be just the opposite. Falcon fish seem to be exta strong for some reason are another.A lot of times a really big fish will make a couple hard runs then one more when you bring em up then come up and lay on there side.I hardly ever dip a fish.

I caught two 8lbers in a Media tourney once from same spot and on same bait. got one in the boat in about 10 seconds. Other one took forever. Also caught a 2lber at Fork last summer that had I had not seen the fish and it broke off I would have sworn it was a toad. Fish pulled so hard it was ridiculous and I had a H action rod.

So would it be wrong to say that a 10 lb fish can fight 2 times as hard as a five pounder? or do they kinda plateau at some point when they get that big

Many of the 10lb+ fish are at the end of their life cycle. 10lb bass are still a rarity. IMO, most still have old man strength. Still enough in the tank to sustain one heck of a battle.

Its not the size of the fish in the fight, its the size of the fight in the fish...

Just got back form the Lake and did pretty good again today. Caught 13 and missed 3. All on Jerkbaits. All around 1 to 3 lbs. 3 of the smaller ones were Supercharged compared to the other 10, They pulled and fought harder. I've read on here that the Natives fight harder than Florida Strains. It is correct!

Catch a 5 lb smallmouth then you got a fight. Personally I think a lot of smallmouth fishing is overated. I have caught quite a few as well as big ones and not all fight like crazy.

Out of all the basses I've caught thru the years I would have to say the 8 - 9# fish are the hardest fighting fish. It's pretty rare when a bass will pull drag off my reel at the end of a long cast but I've had several 8 to 9 pounders do just that.
Had one bass at Fork that went 11.67 jump completely out of the water with my DB3 in her mouth and do a cartwheel way out there away from my boat. She jumped twice more out of the water before we got her to the boat. Had an 11.61 come straight to the boat and wallow on top like a carp, pretty sluggish.
You really can't say an 8 pounder is gonna pull any harder than a 5 pounder. Normally they will but every fish is different.

In my experience the smaller fish, 3-5lb range fight way harder than the 10+ Lb fish which seem to tire quicker. The rational I've heard from that is the big boys just don't have the energy to fight like the smaller fish do.
