I am wanting to catch some trout but I have hardly any clue on where to fish the pond. My rig is... Main line to swivel-6lb mono(I think)-couple weights- to small hook and corn.
I went friday with the ice, but I thought they wouldnt care... I didnt get a bite, and was wondering if anyone had some pointers to lend out.
Thanks,

First, you need to confirm with the fishery that they were actually stocked.

If so, ultralight set-up with small in-line spinners.

If you like to soak bait, any of the power bait products should get you bit.

I found they like eating bait floating just above the bottom. Berkley floating trout nuggets. In that pond they hang out in the middle more than around the bank so I always cast out deep. A lot of people like to say to use Panther Martins, Mepps, or other small spinners but I haven't had any luck with them in that pond. I'll fish off the bottom and walk around throwing some to pass the time but had no luck. Might catch a bass or two but thats it with them.

I think they stock a small number of trout every other week on Fridays, like 300 or so. I was there two weeks ago on Saturday, everyone used power bait. I caught 4 in 3 hours. A guy next to me had a better luck, he used orange and I used rainbow color. I think the guy kept more trout than he is allowed to.

I fished for trout a few days after the first stocking. Power bait sitting about 12 inches off the bottom. Had good luck between 3-5pm.
The bite seems to come and go, so i would suggest being prepared to wait a little. I cast my line with the power-bait and then entertained myself with a second rod using spinners.

Anyone know what time they stocked 2 weeks ago? They are stocking again today so I thought it would be cool to watch and see if I get lucky and catch a few.

2 things about that pond use power bait for the trout and use a punch bait for the catfish. In years past I have found trout and catfish In that pond. small spinners may get you a bass and even a crappie!. For the size of the pond the catfish are in the 12 to 25inch range. I have seen lots of trout on stringers after the stocking of the pond. They also stock the pond with catfish to.

Hi new to forum. I have fished south lakes for three years. Denton Pond jumper is spot on. Power bait -trout ,punch bait- catfish. Even thought I took the family about two weeks ago fishing and both daughters caught a catfish on power bait #10 salmon egg hook. Both hooked on there lip. That's a first and probably never again.

I went out on Saturday and Monday to those ponds. I was fly fishing, so my technique is significantly different than yours.

It was cold on Saturday and I did not stay out very long (an hour or so). In that amount of time I hooked one that got off and landed another. I only saw one other guy catch one.

Monday - warm temps, but same story for me. Others were doing much better. Corn and powerbait seemed to be the ticket.

I've fished for trout longer than I can remember and only recently switched to bass. What a lot of people don't realize about trout is their opportunistic nature. They are not predators like bass. Trout love bugs, which is why fly fishing for them is so effective. However, they love the cold water even more, which is why they hunker down in the depths of the lake. Trout will take the powerbait and corn simply because it is available, not because it is their main food source.... unless it is a hatchery trout - then it does look/smell like the feed pellets they are used to, which is why I believe they are so effective. A wild trout, or a holdover trout in a lake/river, will rarely take powerbait or corn. I see most big trout caught on spinners and flies. Obviously that does not apply to this situation, but something to keep in mind if you ever chase this elusive (yet delicious) species in their natural habitat.

#10 hook with yellow corn and salmon egg, works every time.

I went there Tuesday during my lunch break and noticed a Asian guy fishing and he had 11 trout in his bucket. I told him the limit is 5 but he didn't care.
