Stan, I do beleive that Falcon could produce a state Record and Not a world. Several thing have to be right on Falcon just to produce another Lake record , State record. Etc. First and formost we have to be at a high water level . All of the really great years on Falcon have been when the water has been high , at least that is the way it has been since 1971. Also the longer it stays up the better and better it gets. It is not hard to see this pattern , Just look at the tournament stats. Also we need to get more people to catch and release, because there is no slot limit and we still have the netters to deal with. Bottom line Full lake , Big fish. I for one, fish every day hoping and knowing this could and will happen. But everything has to be right. Less fish in our lakes would make a better environment for giant fish. Catch and release has had a negative impact on fishing for true giant fish. My 0.02 So wait a sec..... All of those 7 and 9 pound LMB heads at the State Park cleaning table are good for Falcon?

I believe there has been a huge decline in crawfish population on most lakes since all the drought conditins and drawing down Texas lakes.Since we dont have trout the crawfish are our hope to produce heavy Bass. This with the ageing of our lakes, destoying grass, and fishing pressure on Best big bass lakes during spawn I think there not much hope for even new State record until conditions change. I think crappie grow the big ones in Texas. The crappie population in lakes like fork, ivie and sam rayburn are great. I tried to get Texas parks and wildlife to stock Lake Nasworthy with trout this winter but they didnt go for that. I even offered to pay for them lol.

I bet Alan Henry has one or two that could potentially get to state record size, if not already that big.

Txwhitetail, I agree with what you are saying, but people are keeping the wrong size on Falcon, You keep and kill 7 and 8 pound healthy fish , that is what I am refering to. You keep and kill 2 pounders you are doing the lake a favor. So catch and release all of the 5 pounds and bigger fish It will for sure help the lake.

Warm water lakes have a tendency to produce big fish fast. But, not the giant size fish.

Most lakes that produce a giant do so during an up cycle of the lake. Falcon was a great example of this. Austin and Conroe were 2 others that were in a big fish upswing. Austin will be amazing for a couple more years until the forage base comes back to a sustainable level with what little grass is left. I think fork is in an upswing as well and if the grass can hold, the fishing will follow. Of course all of this is dependent on adequate water levels which is no longer predictable.

I think there are alot of lakes that have a state record in them. I don't think people realize how many fish are actually in any one given lake. People assume that since they didn't catch them today that they were not around any fish when simply that isn't true. There are fish in these reserviors that have never been caught and some that stay in places where they have never seen a bait. I'd venture to say Ivie & Amistad probably have several swimming around that would make you need to change your drawers if you saw them. Glad you mentioned Amistad. The 3 larges Bass that I have ever seen have been on Lake Amistad. All three had wounded a very large shad and one knocked out a 2 lb. Bass. Two of those fish were so close I could almost net them if I would have had a net as big as a hula hoop. All were in the 20 lb. class and one was much bigger than that. When the biggest Bass layed on her side to eat that huge Shad, she remained there for a few seconds with none of the Shad visble sticking out of her mouth. She worked that Shad until I am guessing it was completly down her gullet by kinda swimming and bounceing on her side; then just uprighted herself and crused out of sight. WOW-- What a story A state record at the big blue would be nice --- I just don't see it happening.

I say heck yes to both. Freak fish exists. They didn't have trout stockings in the 1930's. And Perry's fish wasn't caught in a huge resevior. It was an oxbow, with natural forage, we all know the story. So it is very possible, since history says its already happened once.

After fishing falcon yesterday...not sure if there are any bass in it. Kidding, but fishing did suck.
I think the deep water of Amistad puts it in better contention for the survivability of a monster bass.

When Perrys fish was caught there was nearly no fishin pressure and what was was mostly catfishermen. Also those oxbows were full ells like the ones we seined up in Neches river as a kid.Im with Falconer, keep smaller bass release any over 4#.Next I would like to see TPW close off at least one good nursery cove on lakes during Spawn.yea I know ooch! It will take alot to get another State Record in Texas. We will never see a World Record come out of Texas.

I have no doubt that Texas has a world record in it. The problem is a fish that old may only be a world record for a day or 2 a year and she is gonna be very inteligent. I think fishing pressure actually decreases the odds of a world record being caught here because by the time a fish is that old she knows every bait that BPS sells by heart.

I think a state record could be pulled out of there. It's about time the state record is broke. With all the other lake levels not doing so well, this lake has a good chance. Fork still holds the record with 18lbs on Jan 24, 1992. Fork has bigger bass in there I'm certain of it. If you think I'm lying, the next time your out that way, go to Mustang resort and look what's hanging on their wall.
