He might be telling you the truth. He may have fished the lake for years and know the best places to find them. Make a friend of him and get him to take you fishing. smile

Joe Pool Lake has been terrible for me for crappie. I've caught a lot of large black bass but have problems finding legal crappie to take home.

Yet I know a few guys are taking limits of nice crappie from the lake. I saw one of them come to the fishing barge and give nice sized crappie to people fishing on the Joe Pool fishing barge last month.

Other people post about the limits from Joe Pool lake here in this forum.

So it is a matter of learning the lake enough to know where to find them at different seasons.

If you ask me, I will tell you Joe Pool is terrible for finding keeper crappie. If you ask one of these guys they will tell you it is a great lake for slab crappie.

One day I hope to be able to tell you the same thing. smile

Elbow was a little lake before WP was built. To find it go to the south end of herron creek, where it opens up into the lake, take a 195 degree heading across open water for 3/4 mile. That is Elbow lake. I have an old TED Bledso Map that has elbow on it.

Yep, you are right! They won't be there this time of year, though! That's a great spawn area.

Leaving out of Heron to get there is very "STUMPY" for about a 1/4 to 1/2 mi. At the current lake level, you shouldn't have to many issues but take it easy or Launch @ the Berry Farm and take a right around the point. I wouldn't think many will be caught this time of year, there.

Sounds like Mauldin lake to me...there is one channel off the river that makes an elbow and leads to the middle part of the lake...plus if you access it from the North, there is an elbow right at the mouth of it...just saying....

Hey Wright Patman guys. If they get to biting over there, PM me. My Dad lives in Marietta, but has been in bad health the last year or so. I got him a new ProAngler 10' for Christmas and I'm trying to get him to get out and do some fishing. He doesn't like it when the lake is high though. He fishes out of Mauldin State Park and fishes Heron Creek area. He doesn't get out in the main lake at all. I'm 3 hours away so it's hard for me to get over there often and take him. But if you guys hear they are biting let me know, please. I don't need to know where, just that they are and I'll try to either go take him or at least convince him it's worth the effort. Cheers and thank you.
