Yes Sir,it is about the one holding the rod,that braid,this braid,that mono,this mono is nothing but(for the most part) skill compensation.
Your gear must accommodate the conditions,heavy cover and open waters are very much different.
Species has very little to do with it
Whatever your line weight its good to double your leader weight

If your good you can land a fish on 6 pound line use the drag ok it may take a long time to get the fish but it can be done I hate this 20 lb line plus stuff. Oh I use 20 the pomd stiff Bot I want A brush pile lof

Let the rod/reel handle the load and you handle the patience to get'em reeled in

Before beefing up the mono, which doesn't work well btw, I'd go with braid with a mono leader. I've tried it, and 20# mono is a problem. They aren't designed for that thickness of line.

So what weight braid line is comparable to the 10-12 pound mono that is recommended on my spinning reel?
