Shad will work just fine if that's what he wants to do. And since that's what he asked that's why I gave him an answer Fact is shad will almost always out fish any lure. Just so happens right now the lure fishing is good as well Some months u can't buy a fish on lures I get so irritated with people who think lures are the only way to fish. If that were the case and I could insure 250 + trips a year full boxes of fish that's what I would be doing Typically this time of year bait is easy to get. Tomorrow my guys wanna and like to bait fish. So I ain't gonna " make" them lure fish It will be my only bait trip this week so I'll tell ya exactly when and where I find it

Bait was ok today. Way in the back of mill creek tween 5:30 and 6:30 am. Not great but enough. I would say in the backs of any big cove or creek or marina. But not In Highport today

Thanks Jeff, I was wondering about Highport.
With the new regulations that started on Tuesday (or maybe December 1st), I believe it is not legal to harvest bait from Lake Lewisville (just when I have several of the best Transport devices on the market -Sunshine Tanks). may have to try and hit Lake Lavon.
On Texoma, most of my favorite bait spots North and East of the islands, are without water and bait (and it was too cold and windy to drift/dead stick without full enclosure).
The wind was pretty calm when I left the house, and I listened to the weather radio report where McKinney Calm at 5mph, but Wichita falls, Texas the wind was reported at 25, gusting to 28, as this front moved from west to east. However, it was Saturday and I really wanted to hit the lake. Driving North on Hwy 75, the flags on the signs in Melisa were dead calm (pointing down) when I drove past around 8:30am.
I was wondering if you had seen any bait in your area. I side scanned throughout Highport, with no luck (not even at the fuel pumps), and started to think that next time I would have to get up at 4am to load up on bait, or head west of the 377 bridge. I then tried the 3 coves to the East of HighPort, marked a very small school in 28' of water, on the bottom. Then decided to head west (where I located it in abundance during the past month (dark, muddy water). I couldn't make it West of the Mill Creek, as a "weak cold front arrived" and the wind was gusting (probably up to 28mph) strong with white-caps, so I attempted to look for new bait spots in Mill Creek area (I guess 10:30am is a little too late :)). I found a small amount bait (birds led me to them), but not enough to anchor and fish.
I tried to go back and east, hadn't done that in many years. Found some "Teaser terns" (hit the water in an area, but I never marked bait, and didn't catch any in the net).
It was just too cold, and decided to save the fuel, and health for the week of Christmas (may be up there on Monday or Tuesday, if not Christmas shopping).

Man I think artificials are a lot of fun, it takes a little training but once you learn to fish them it is Game ON. So far I have fished with artificaials and Shad for six years and personally really like the artificaials for pure action but there are a ton of guides that fish all shad and some guides that do both.
If you can afford to book a guided trip with Striper express try to get on Chris's boat, he is very good at teaching the techniques you need to know to catch them consisitently. If you have to, get on a party boat trip but either way taking a few lessons from him will make the difference between 2-3 striper a day and 40 a day in my expereience.
I have been getting hits on chartreuse anything right now but have seen some guys doing good on salt and pepper flukes.
