I have a couple of older Abu winches in 3.8:1. They would work great

I'm looking for a reel for big deep crankbaits. What's recommended low gear ratio reels or high? My choice for deep crankbait fishing is the Revo Winch. This reel was designed for fishing deep diving crankbaits with its low gear ratio to it's dual braking system which you'll need when throwing those bigger crankbaits so that you won't end up with a rats nest at the end of your cast.

I prefer the lower geared ratios, not as low as the 3.8:1, but a 4.4:1 to a 5.1:1. The Revo winch, I believe, is a 5.4 to one, not too bad for that application. My favorite reels are still the old fashioned greenie Curado 200 B5's. My next purchase, however, will be a Lew's BB1 with it's 5.1:1 ratio. I have heard good things about them and I used to use the older Lew's reels for CBing a long time ago. Hope this helps.
Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Thad- Were the older green Curado's 200 B5 4.4 to 1 gear ratio? I have a few of them. I did not know they had a lower ratio.

ABF,
The B5s are actaully a 5.1:1 ratio. There were a few 3.8:1 made, but those were B3.8 models. So, pretty much what they say they are. Hope this helps.

This is old-school advice but....check out ebay for a Lews BB1N....best, IMO, cranking reel ever. Low gears and no "instant anti-reverse" that the manufacturers convinced us to convince ourselves was a good thing.

I know of some Elite pro's that use the Curado 300 in the 5-1 range for all size of deep divers ie..6's 22's 10's. FYI.. I'm know expert by any means just passing along what they've handed me when we're out fishing...
