That's a question that you will either get a ton of answers or you may get few if any because there are so many prepared baits and within each brand are many different formula's. You may want to let folks know where you are located and what lakes you fish as a starter. Different baits work for some lakes but are not as effective as other baits on different lakes.
At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

I've heard good things about sureshot and cj's, but personally I've like mr whiskers cheese bait or team catfish secret 7 bait

Mr whiskers, secret 7 or sureshot is what I use when I fish for channels, I have also heard good things about cj's but have not tried it, don't get any of those baits like magic bait, gulp livers, packaged shad or anything like that, get a good punch bait.

CJ's,Kings has worked as good as the trendy/pricey stuff
and they are easier to get locally from places like Academy
Getting good quality gloves affords easier handling so you can pack the hooks good
I only use the stuff when the kids are fishing,I just bait hooks and accept big grins cause the kids have a big time snatching turdsuckers

I've used sudden impact and had decent success, it's SUPER sticky almost like using caramel

I like sudden impact. Secret 7 is good too but sudden impact stays on the hook better. It has fibers in it and catfish like it. You get bites on it pretty fast.

I don't always use punch bait, but when I do I prefer Sure Shot.

Team Catfish Sudden Impact. When the water gets above about 60 degrees, it works great, but when it gets up into the 70/80's, it is awesome
