When pitching or flipping what would you say is the most frequent indication of a bite for you ? Is it visual or is it in the feel of the rod/line ? For me it's visual. Anymore I rarely use a line that is not high viz. I either tie on a short length of dark braid or I use a black sharpie to darken the first few feet of line. I gotta be able to see my line at all times.

I think if you can visually see the line move you have a greater advantage than feeling the bite. I wish my vision was good enough to see the line tick before I feel the thump. A buddy of mine in college had 20/10 vision and he always caught more fish because he could see the line twitch before he felt the bite. Now I can see when a fish moves off with the bait and the line is moving to the side, that is very obvious, and usually it is a good fish. You usually don't feel the bite, just see the line moving sideways. LOL
With a jig, sometimes you will not feel the thump but the jig will just feel heavy. When you feel that, set the hook.

i guess its both for me ill feel a thump then ill watch my line for movement. Cause when you fish rocks and underwater brush you get a lot of thumps so i just wait to watch the line move then cross the fishes eyes.

for me, alot of the time when I pitch it in a hole, and tighten that little bit of slack on my line from casting, the fish is just "there" all of the sudden, it is not like I saw the line move or felt a thump...
but I definitely prefer to feel em chew on it, then give em a big ol hookset to the face

I am always watching the line for movement. I am also judging the time and distance it takes the bait to reach the bottom. I also strip line to allow the bait to make the vertical fall and assure that it does not drift away from the cover by trying to feel the bit on the fall.
That is 3 techniques all wrapped up in one pitch. - Make the pitch and watch the fall. - Strip the line for stay in the strike zone presentation. - Lift the slack line to see if anyone is home. 90% of the time they will just sit there with it. You will learn this feel for the bit, which is just heavy like coming over a limb. Then set the hook.

Makes me long for the days of Trilene Big Game Flippin....yes, young folks, there really was such a line. It was a hi-vis, tough, sensitive, just the right amount of everything line that was, for some reason, discontinued. I don't know if there is a flourocarbon equivalent available.

I know for me its just when I pull up on it and it feels different. Sometimes you feel it and sometimes you see it.

I keep a finger in contact with the line and feeling the weight change gets rewarded with a hook set,no fish? Repeat as necessary. Sometimes the line feels heavy other times no weight at all is enough reason.
Long time bass fisherman, in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, West by God Virginia,Minnesota,Indiana,Canada and now my new home state of Texas.

I use my sixth sense...bass fish no can defend... lol We fish in West Tex. & the wind is ALWAYS blowing. Being able to see your line first is usually not an option. The line is usually bouncing all over the place. I have to have moments of tightening up the slack without moving the bait too much and hope I feel some movement.
