in Texoma? Looking to go fishing up there in the next couple of weeks and need to see if I should try and stock up here before I go. Did it kill a lot of shad or are they still pretty easy to find? Any info greatly appreciated.

Shad will always be hard to find this time of year. My suggestion is to go prepared. If you can get bait ahead of time than do so. If not... Be prepared to spend time looking. They're in there, you just need to find them. Look for the birds, they'll tell you where the bait is.

I threw my net twice today and caught at least 20 gizzards that were 5-13 inches long. Me and my buddy are gonna set a couple lines in the morning. My question is should I leave them whole or cut them into chunks?

Only two throws yesterday morning and we had eniugh bait to fish two or three days. A nice mix of cutters and large hookers.

Remember guys it is now against the law to catch bait in one lake and take to another if
it is one of the lakes that have the zebra mussels reg. Which is most of the north texas lakes.

I believe it is live bait Johnny. They are concerned about transporting of water from one body to another. Dead bait on ice is still ok. At least that is the way I understand it. If I am wrong someone correct me.

Thanks for the heads up Johnny. So taking shad from Eagle Mtn to Texoma is a bad idea? I guess taking the boat as well is probably not so good either. I usually only fish Eagle Mtn except for one a year this time to Texoma. Water is so low there it was requested I take my flat bottom along with my Jon boat in order to get around in some of the shallow areas.

It's not against the law to transport bait from one place to another. It's against the law to transport water.

You can do what you want with the bait as long as you're not moving water from one body of water to another that's on "the list". Doesn't matter if that water is in a minnow bucket, bait tank, live well or the back end of the boat.
