Are you getting paranoid like I am about finding bed bugs when staying at a motel/hotel ? My wife & I are retired & enjoy going down to the coast a lot ..usually Rockport or Port Aransas. We are now having 2nd thoughts about going. I did a little looking on the internet & this is what I found. Have you had any bad encounters with these little bugs from hell ? Comments ?

Got tore up with them in Russellville, AR while fishing a tournament at Lake Dardenelle.

400 fishermen in town, so I couldn't get another room. Stayed there 6 nights and finally figured out what was eating on me around day 3. sucks sleeping in long sleeves and pants and socks

Paranoid is the term, but only because I've had experience with them. They are a nightmare to get rid of.

Discovering that your motel room is infested with those things is bad enough, but bringing those things home with you, is where the nightmare really begins. Is inspecting your room prior to moving in enough ?

Look at your room. Look under the mattress and behind the headboard. They even turn up in high-priced hotels and apartments. Look for the bugs themselves, or what looks like small flecks of pepper, which is the dried out poop.

I noticed there has been only 4 replys to this thread...I would say that is a good sign. Maybe those critters are not as widespread as it sounds. This forum is very popular, so maybe those that encounter these bugs from hell will post it here & put out the warning.
Thanks,
Roger

I have been checking my rooms regularly for the past few years. I feel like I dodged a bullet in East Texas a while back. The hotel that I had been staying at was heat treating a few of its rooms when I checked out. I'm pretty sure that would have been for bed bugs.

I would say your right Deadshort. I too have been inspecting our motel room prior to moving everything in.
I have never found any bugs , but I pray each time that I don't bring any of those little critters home with me.

What lead you to believe they were "heat treating" ?
Bed bug eradication isnt done with HEAT FYI

I know very little about treating bed bugs, but it seems like I read somewhere that heat was one method.
I may be wrong...

All's well and good, but a good exterminator doesnt use heat, called my nephew on topic and he just laughed
and remarked,They give a license to anybody these days.

Anyway, travelers should always carry a can of spray with them (Equate* Lice bedding spray will work)

That is what the manager told me. It was either extreme heat or cold.
