The first ever event for the SETX High School Fishing Association is officially in the books. A huge congratulations go out to the team of Rambo and Manuel for besting a high school record field of 262 teams. Conditions were less than perfect as anglers had to contend with high winds, cold weather, and large waves. Despite the adversity, every team checked in safely and with a smile on their faces. We would like to thank everyone that braved the weather to fish today and invite you all to come back on Feb 1st to do it again. A special thank you to all of the volunteers today. It could not have been done without you. There are simply too many individuals to mention, but folks like Bryan, Ted, Paul, Tom, Lisa, Jimmie, Ray and many more are among the best and most competent people I have had the pleasure of working with. I am honored to be a part of this organization and completely humbled by the amazing young men and women that I met today. Once again, thank you to everyone involved and I can't wait to see you all again in February!

It was an extremely well run event. Thanks to all that helped out, especially Brian Thomas. Without him none of this would have ever even got off the ground. Many other folks have also dedicated a big part of their life to this program also, thanks to all of them too.

There were a ton people that made event a success. I hate to start naming people because I know I will miss someone but I am going to do it anyway. Thank you Ted Odell, Paul Squier, Tom Saleman, Lisa Moore, Jenn Doyle, Nicole Harris, John Salomone, Ray Beck, Lew's, Stephanie Martindale (parking was great), all of the volunteers from LCM, Deweyville, Bridge City, PNG, Lumberton, Buna, Kirbyville, Vidor, Silsbee, Buna, Huntington, and all of the boat captains.

That decision to move the tournament was made this past weekend due to size of the field in the event.

If big turnout is problem, what about Livingston (Waterfront Lodge)? They don't have as much room as Fin & Feather.

Most likely all tournaments will be moved to Rayburn unless we see a decline in boat numbers or another facility that can safely and easily hold 200+ boats is available (in Texas). I HOPE we can keep the livingston tournament but I personally look for it to be moved. It is up to the host schools though.

If big turnout is problem, what about Livingston (Waterfront Lodge)? They don't have as much room as Fin & Feather. The schedule was made when anticipation was that there would not be nearly this many boats. There will be adjustments made after this first tournnament and I'm sure with the people involved they will be for the best. Safety is the first concern with this tournament series above all else. This first year may require some patience but this is like nothing that's been done before. My son Hunter and his partner Daren Dew did great and finished 3rd. Not bad for a couple of 7th graders. Hunter has fished alot of big events on the Junior Side (even a Central Divisional) and this was not like anything he has done before. Based on this showing the future looks bright. I want to really thank Bryan Thomas and everyone who had the vision to get this thing started.
