Trying to get into heavy swimbait fishing, and I'm looking for a decent rod for the job, preferably under $175. Any suggestions?

I would build my own. It is easy to do. I it hard to find a rod for the big baits.
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!

Denali has a sweet swimbait rod that I use. It is part of their Rosewood series 7 foot extra heavy. It is a little more than what you want to spend at $199.00, but worth it in my option.

The rod I use for throwing the big 8" huddleston's and osprey's is the Abu Garcia Volatile Inshore rod in the 8'heavy power with the the fast tip. I can launch these big swimbaits with ease with these rods. This model has the longer handle to help you cast these baits and with the soft tip helps the rod load up better when the fish takes the bait.

Thanks everyone! Anyone have a reel to recommend for it? I was thinking a Lews Super Duty, but I'm scared its going to burn the gears out in it.

Save a little more money and buy a Dobyns 807 swimbait rod with a Shimano Cardiff reel. You will thank me
