Yesterday, the Dallas county Commissioners agreed to spend more than $621,000 making improvements to the Miller Road bridge that connects Garland and Rowlett. The joint project is expected to cost more than $12.4 million, with funding from the Region, the cities of Garland and Rowlett, and Dallas County. The project is expected to be completed in December 2014.

That project may shut down the creek for 2014.

$12 million?

I'll do it for $1 million and it will be just as good...with a boat ramp.

Glad they're improving it. That stretch of the road sure is rough, potholes everywhere.

I got an update from County Commissioner Mike Cantrell and wanted to share the latest information.
The bids for construction are under review at this time with an anticipated award date in January 2014, and hopefully a construction start date in March. We expect it will take approximately 18 months to complete the project. Please keep in mind that there will be a continuous lane open in each direction during the construction. I believe they plan to build a new bridge while keeping the existing one open, and then shift traffic to the new bridge while demolishing the old one.

Here are more details about the project:
Year Selected - 2008
Program Year -2013
Lead Agency - Dallas County
Total Project Cost - $12,436.871
Scope - Garland East City Limit to Rowlett W. City Limit (bridge) - Construct a 4 lane divided (32' median) concrete roadway and bridge to replace existing 2 lane asphalt roadway and two small bridges - road will mirror improvements done on each side in Rowlett & Garland
Funding Source: County $1,244,000 - City Rowlett/Garland approx. $622,000 each - TXDOT (COG-RTR FUNDS) $9,952,000
(County 10%, each city 5%, COG 80%)
Construction Bids Open: 10/31/13
Construction Awarded to: Anticipated 1/2014
ANTICIPATED COMPLETION DATE: Spring-Summer 2015 (TBD)

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you and Merry Christmas,

Traci Enna

I hope they make it high enough so you can get a small boat underneath it to fish north of the bridge.

If the start construction in March it will certainly affect the sandie/hybrid run.

RC is always flowing. If they were to damnit up, the water will flood the bridges over the banks. I assume then, they will not block it so then the fish can still migrate up. If not, we be screwed.

I am glad I do not travel on that bridge, traffic will be terrible.
