I have been almost strictly fishing for catfish my whole life, but recently moved to lake Corpus Christi and would appreciate pointers. I went out the other day and only caught one white bass in 5 feet of water. What depths should I be looking? Should I be on the river coming into the lake or near the dam? Any general tips or any knowledge of this specific lake? Thanks in advance!

Go to the thickest cover you can find and throw a jig. Slow, slow and slow down some more. This works on most lakes. I perfer the river fishing over open water this time of year.

Sorry I can't give specific Info. on the lake. Never fish it; but if I was going to do it tomorrow that is what I would do as a starting point.

If the dam has rocks go to it place your boat 5-10ft away from the dam and throw crankbiats and spinner baits paralle to the dam you can also throw a shakey head worm use 1/4 oz and crawl it through rocks slowly use a watermellon red or green pumpkin zoom finese worm

Google how to locate fish according to the time of year and the conditions. Then try to see if you can locate fish on your local lake in a similar manner. If you aren't a fan of learning by reading, join a bass club. Most of them are really good at getting you started.

P.S. It can get complicated real fast. I suggestion I have for you is to focus on just three techniques for 0-5', three for 5-12' and maybe three for 12-20'. If they are deeper than 20', that can be tricky for the newbie. Also learn to read your electronics.

As far as a bait you could start with an old fashion Zoom 6 inch U-tail worm in Junebug. Texas rig it. This is my confidence bait, when the conditions are at their worst I can get a few fish on a worm. Fish it slow at this time of year! As far as a spot... run points. There will be some fish on points year around. Some people may disagree with this but I believe there are always some fish shallow. Not saying shallow is always the best spot. I learned to bass fish by taking the Texas rig and beating the bank. Unless it was Spring I would never do as well as the other fisherman who were more experienced, but I built confidence. Look for shorelines where it drops off to deep water.

it will cost a little $$ but think about hiring a guide for day and he can show you lots of techniques and where to look for fish. good luck and good fishing!
