The shad have moved in so thick, it's hard to catch a fish. Your jig or minnow will be floating but, it will be floating inside a bio mass of shad. The fish can't see your bait through the huge school of shad. Might be a week till the fish pick up again while the shad settle in for the winter. I'm not talking about 100 shad or so, I'm talking about 10,000+ per hole. They are constantly moving and swirling around. The game fish don't want anything to do w/ a jig or minnow when there are 1000's in front of them.

Find the bio masses of bait sized shad, and fish downstream of them. The game fish will be there picking off the dead and dying. Natural fresh live thread fin shad work wonders.

Before the front there were a few keepers here and there. But with this shad run, sometimes it hard to find fish upstream of the Lawthur Bend. Lawthur to mockingbird has been producing better so far. It's very hard to jig and bobber with all the shad. U snag one every cast. And it's hard to tell what's a bite and what's 100 shad hitting your line as they pass by.

When I showed up and saw the shad, I just sat on a log till my buddy was bored with no bites. Just shad humps.

Went by WRC this afternoon and counted 12 cars at the Lawther Bridge parking lot.

Went by Bachman and it had a thin sheet of ice on the upper lake, behind Whataburger and Walgreen's.

Have the shad thinned out yet? Is it worth a trip?
