Glad to have the other half of the Mr. VC & CG superhero team comment.I think it is perfectly fine to hold up those superfatties like you mentioned, but I'm still learning.Also very glad to hopefully continue to have you as a carp angler here in Austin.No one is born with carp safety knowledge let alone the somewhat expensive safety gear that usually has to be ordered online.Everyone here on the forum understands that this knowledge has to be passed on to others, anotherwords all of us here at one time or another had the exact same amount of carp fishing and safety knowledge.Hope you had as good of time fishing with VC as I did.Hope you got HOOKED on the rush of carp angling! Maybe you me and the VC can fish next year.I'll bait up a spot.We will be the three superhero amigos!

@greentumater thx for all the Re:'s, and answered my question..
with some barb removed size 2 circle hooks, working on a knotless net.. I just might take up on your offer sometime..
tight line [circle hooks work better that way ;^)]

One tip Keith Thompson gave me was to pinch the barbs down on your regular barbed hooks. I'm going to try this out next year.The pinched barb may give just a bit of hold on the hook to help it from falling out.Also CG the guys here all have goods hearts and were just trying to look out for the fish with there comments.Scott especially has helped me out a lot and I have a lot of respect for him.

@c.g - no need for circle hooks for carp. The circle hook is designed to catch bony mouthed in the scissors of the jaw and to prevent gut hooking. A good J hook is a much better option. Also no need for size 2 hooks either 6's or 8's unless you are using huge baits.

The one on the left is a size 6 and is very similar to the pattern VC and many others here use with great success. It has a slightly turned in tip which is fine.This is a proven hook!

@Keith_Thompson & greentumater
thank you bunches..
Sure feel different about carp now when seeing Fully Equipped Great All American Bow Fishing..
@greentumater - VC was using that Sz 6. But I like the one that I'm using thinking that it might be safer for Mr Wisker when he munches on the kernel(?). I don't mind missing a few.. [dunno]
I still like to find the same size hook with thicker wire than the one I'm using, though [less cutting on those tender lips(???)]

In general the wire thickness in the size 6 hooks is pretty decent at not cutting in to the carps lips.I generaly use a size 6 that has a slightly thicker wire than normal.When you get into heavier gauges of wire sometimes the tips are less sharp though.I never use factory sharpened hooks, never found one even close to my standards.I usually cuss when I pay top dollar for the new world's best and sharpest hook ever ads by the top manufacturers and you receive them to find just another dull hook just like the rest.Those hooks VC is using seem to do the trick.I would suggest just copying VC's success and add a carp net and mat to the mix.

go right on catching them there carp VC and enjoy it. I see noting wrong with your net at all here at the pay-lakes that is the kind of net that most of us use to net our fish with is the knotted net and I don't hurt fish with them at all. I have use one over 47 years of carp fishing that should count for something. the biggest thing is getting out there and catching them and enjoying it I think and taking a kid fishing.
