I bank fished my local pond twice on Monday and twice on Tuesday. Caught eight (and lost what would have easily been a PB to a spit hook an arm's length from me). Weather was fantastic.
Same BOW yesterday for about 5 hours total (morning and again in afternoon) and I could not buy a nibble. Threw the exact same lures and more and fan cast every place I could. NOTHING! Was foggy and very cloudy in the morning, mostly sunny in the afternoon. Warm temps.
As I type this, it is 43 degrees and dropping.
Looking over my log from the last cold snap in November:
- Thursday (11/21) was the last nice day before the arctic blast. I fished (same BOW as above) and was skunked.
- Friday (11/22) started warm, but cooled quickly. I didn't fish. I remember a buddy did (different BOW) and was skunked.
- Saturday (11/23) was COLD. Fished briefly and was skunked.
- Sunday (11/24) was COLD. Bank fished Lady Bird Lake for several hours and was royally skunked.
--- Needless to say, I'm not fishing for awhile.

Make sure you are using a line that doesn't sink. This will cause your bait to sink. You don't want that. The bait needs to be jerked and then stay motionless, especially in colder conditions. Good luck, Jerk!! Interesting: some like using fluoro for jerkbaits. I can see arguments for different types of line depending on the situation. What is your jerkbait line preference? Yesterday I actually used 14lb flouro. But I had to keep working the bait up in the strike zone. They were hitting the bait about 4ft under the surface. When the water gets any colder, then you'll have to leave the bait sit for longer periods; therefore, you will be out of the strike zone by using flouro and having your bait sink. I am going back to Silver Thread AN40 copolymer 12lb green. The only reason I changed was because I broke off two giants last year and I wanted a stronger lb test. I will take my chances this year and make sure the bait presentation is at its max potential with the copolymer.

Caught 14 fish yesterday afternoon, all about 4 feet under the surface in water 10 to 12. All small on small shallow crank bait but tried several other methods while the bite was on, T rig, deep cranks, nothing. Right back to catching with shallow diver. Might add that I left them biting for other water and threw a 10xd the rest of afternoon. Two bites one fish on 10x, lost a good one as I stopped cranking to speak to boaters passing by, fish must have bit it as it rose near the surface as I stuck it straight under me in creek channel.
