I took my boy Friday to Lake Hawkins because he wanted to catch a pickerel...we fished from 10 am to 3pm with not a bite. We used senkos,flukes, rattle traps,spinners,spoons,small jigs,...everything fast and slow retrieve not a bite. I usually catch bass every time I go. We were by bridge and tried all above it. I have fished Hawkins a few times when it was warmer and always caught Bass. Does anyone know where on Hawkins to catch pickerel, and how...my boy wants to catch some. Please help if you can..THANKS.

north end has been good before, they likelove vegetation, Daingerfield State Park has a very good population of them lil pikes also

I've been fishing that area consistently the past few months and I've seen ONE Pickerel. In the olden days of yore, this was the right time of year (Dec-Mar) to catch them up in the N end of the lake above the bridge. But I've figured out that those days are over. Increased fishing pressure has really changed the way fish behave on that little lake. But it is true that Chain Pickerel like clear, moving water and emergent vegetation like pads. That's why the N end used to be good. You might want to try in mid-lake where the larger beds of Lilly Pads are nowadays.

Caddo also has a big population of pickerel and this is the time of the year to catch them.

Used a small green plastic grub (1-1.5 inch) & work it thru the weeds. LMB would hit (1-2 pds)if retrieved quickly over the weeds but letting it sink for 2-3 seconds into the weeds put it in their wheelhouse & BAMM, pickerel time. Good little fighters.

+1 on Daingerfield. As I recall... they hammer trolled Mepps Aglia #5s and plastics with a big chartreuse tail get hammered around vegetation. Bonus bass on the same patterns.
