I had one and it didn't just break it exploded! But then again I also blew up 2 carrot stix, so maybe its just me. Personally, I like the castaway rods at academy for the price they are hard to beat.

Only have the cranking rod. I have fished it a ton and caught tons of bass and several bigger slot size red fish in salt water with it. No problems here.

My cranking rod broke in half on a cast. Traded in the remains on a Skeet Reese cranking rod.

I have some and have never had a problem with them. I picked up a few more just to have during the rod riot seeing how they were only $39.

I recently bought 3 during the rod riot and live them so far. If they break, Academy will replace them no questions ask so I don't care if I break one every trip. They are light and sensitive. For the price, you can't beat them IMO.

Do any of you own the 7' medium heavy cranking composite? I have this too, and I am wondering how this medium heavy compares to other medium heavy (that are graphite, not composite) rods of other brands.
Thanks!

got em this season and have held up well. How does the action/power of this rod compare to other rods? I really like the action/power of this rod, but I am looking to get a higher end rod and don't know which power/action to get... I actually used my mh 7' cranking composite for jigs and t-rigs, and it had a great action for what I was doing so I was wondering if this is closer to a medium or a medium heavy standard graphite rod (from other manufacturers). Thanks
