the killer bug is probably the most shocking of all. I've never fished one, because of the lack of availability of the original wool--but it looks like I'm going to get a few yards of a replacement yarn--and give it a go.

you can use almost any grey-beige yarn to tie the killer bug.

chadwick's and its replacement are long gone and way too expensive unless you really must go with the traditional material.

i think the real secret to sawyer's two famous patterns is the liberal use of fine (discolored) copper wire.

he sight fished right off the end of the trout's nose and even a bare hook will take fish if you can cast that well (apparently sawyer could).

i like natural fibers for this pattern or the similar walt's worm. i bought a skein of rabbit, alpaca and wool blend from a spinner and it has worked quite well. however when i first tied these i used whatever was in the house and still caught fish.

crews; I'd like to see a pic of your upside down, bead-eyed teeny nymph. Do you turn the wing up, or down?-p-

so i tied the pattern upside down like a clouser/charlie using light weight bead chain eyes. it's taken more crappie and blegill than carp but it's taken several of them...bass and gar as well.

I'd like to see a picture of one tied upside down.

ditto!

The first fly I tied about a year ago was a variation of a Teeny nymph and I effectively made it look horrible! Wrapping those fibers around that hook was a nightmare for this newbie!!

ponds up here just started freezing in the last couple of weeks...up til then bass and crappie (small bass, large crappie) were hitting pretty regular once the sun warmed things up.
