The day has come and this cold weather ought to lower the water temperature enough. Cities to be stocked today include Amarillo, San Angelo and Wichita Falls. Tomorrow Austin, College Station San Antonio and Waco will get trout. Black Friday is the big day for Athens, Denton, Duncanville, Fort Worth, Houston, Hurst, Mesquite and Missouri City. Remember you need a freshwater license package. Use no more than two rods. The limit is five of any length. For more information including directions to the ponds see the TPWD Trout Stocking Schedule.

Remember the rules when fishing the Guadalupe River below Canyon Dam.... I have seen several folks get busted already for keeping trout when using bait between Hwy 306 downstream to the 2nd Crossing....

I'm assuming that's a location specific issue or something? Hadn't seen any fancy rules on the trout fishing other than 2 poles, license w/fresh water stamp, and 5 fish limit any size.

See the TPWD web page on exceptions to the general regulations. The text is reprinted here: TroutOutside special trout zone For rainbow and brown trout, their hybrids and subspecies, there is no minimum length and daily bag limit = 5 trout in any combination. Special regulation zone In Comal County from the second bridge crossing on River Road upstream to the easternmost bridge crossing on FM 306, minimum length limit on rainbow and brown trout is 18 inches and daily bag limit is one fish. All trout harvested must be caught on artificial lures. In this area only, artificial lures cannot contain or have attached either whole or portions, living or dead, of organisms such as fish, crayfish, insects or worms, any other animal or vegetable material, or synthetic scented materials. This does not prohibit the use of artificial lures that contain components of hair or feathers. Note that prohibits Berkley Power Bait or any other bait such as Salmon eggs, cheese, marshmallows, etc. And you can only keep one fish.

Being from Colorado the best way I found to shore fish Trout is power bait or partial worm blown up with a hypodermic needle. THE Rig : line with slip sinker 1/4 oz. with a good ball bearing swivel below it, then a leader of vanish 2 to 4 ft. with 4 to 6 lb. test ; add a small circle hook no bigger than your small finger nail with the power bait you only need enough to float the hook ; or 1/3 to 1/2 of a night crawler injected with the air from a hypo-dermic needle .Best fishing is at night they come into feed, But no matter try to be in 12 to 15 ft. depth and give it a go . My biggest rain bow is 9.5 lbs. we used to keep only 5 lbs. plus :)(PS : If you hang a little medicine bottle , I prefer white it works as a line bobber that detects the lightest of bites and remember it only takes a light action to set the hook.)Oh !!! if your know where there put in that's home like most fish Happy Fishn

wonder whether air pressure can affect stocked trout fishing. The pressure is sky high today.

I've never fished the trout stocked lakes or ponds. Do you guys try to fish right where they are releasing the fish? Thought I might try the ones in Tyler if it's not too crowded.

The special regs for the Guadalupe river is artificial bait only with no natural or synthetic scents may be used to harvet a fish in the Trophy Trout zone (TTZ). Only one fish over 18" can be harvest a day. GRTU Lease Access Program members are required to exersize catch and release and thus all of us SHOULD too. Especially since they pay for these bigger fish. However, 1st Class Tackle trout worms solve all the problems of the Trophy Trout Zone. We created the ONLY non scented trout worms for the guadalupe river. The reason for our creation was we actually were acting within our rights or so we thought down there last year and still got turned in on suspicion of harvesting illegal fish. In the end the only actual wrong doing was putting a fish on a stringer that had been caught on an illegal bait for harvesting (scented). Even though the fish was released and its release was photoed the fact that a scented bait had been used to catch it and the fact that it had been placed on a stringer was grounds for citation. We figured that placing the fish on a very uninvasive stringer and placing him back in clean flowing water was actually in the fish's best interest while we readyed our cameras. The reason for the photo op was we had been tasked for taking images for an upcoming article in Lone star outdoor news (LSON). The article is on page 8 and then continues on page 17. LSON March Issue 2013 In the end No one was cited and we were all released to fish again. However the experience left such a bad taste in all of our mouths (I wasent the only person questioned) that I spent the summer developing a floating worm with no scent that would kill the trout both the small 10" TPWD stockers and the huge 24" trophy tout of the Guadalupe river TTZ. Check out our video this year from testing them at the TTZ in the begining of our current season. If that gets you interested please feel free to watch our other how to videos on trout fishing and on rigging our specialty Rainbow Trout Worms. Worm Rigging video How to trout fish video.

I went to Mesquite City Lake yesterday and today, both on the afternoon. There are around 30 people there most of the time, i.e., not crowded. Unfortunately fishing is slow. However, the trout size is good, compared to past years. I got two 12" and one 10". There are many ducks around, constantly diving and hunting for trout. Most people use power bait like I do.

Those worms look to be hooking those trout very deep! I could only imagine the mortality rate of those worms
