Hi, I have noticed most of the jiggers are using spinning combo for jigging. I have been using my baitcaster combo for jigging in past days, I actually think it is better for jigging because when I do vertical jigging I can simply leave my thumb on a free spool as I try to find the right depth, once the hook is set I can just start crank it up.

What you guys think?

The only thing I use a spinning reel on when Crappie fishing is a light action rod for the small amount of time I cast and drag to deep brush or to the shoreline. I mostly pitch Huckabee style when possible, or pitch jigs under a cork up shallow, or vertical jig with longer rods. A full size, low profile baitcaster is what I use. I go one step further and all my reels have flippin switches on them. One less step - no closing the bail on a spin reel or turning the handle on the baitcaster. I picked them all up at a good price off Ebay over the years. They also balance the long rod better for me. They work surprisingly well with 4lb line and small jigs when fishing vertical. I also use BC reels for the few times I spider rig and spinners for the few times I longline troll.

For me and my style of fishing a baitcaster just works best.

I found the left hand small lightweight (about 6oz or less) baitcasters work best for me on a jiggin pole. Just picked up a couple tournament zx lefties on sale at cabelas for jiggin. Also using some old school ryobi vmax 3's from ebay. Eliminates the hassle with the bail and line twist with spinners. I agree balances the long rod better too.

For precise depth control, you won't do better than bait cast. I have a couple on my long poles but I do use spinning on my 3 PA 8'ers. I like'um all!

I use baitcasters with flipping switches on all of mine. I use braided line, and it didn't wok too well with spinning. When I was looking for a cheap BC to try for jigging, I found some Quantum Accurists on clearance for $20 each, so I got all six, and they work great.

I think anyone who has gotten tired of replacing "crappie" reels one after another has gone to baitcasters.

No way in hell!! I can not vote, but even if I could, there would be no way in hell I would have voted for him. He has ran this country so far in debt and lies straight to the American people. I wish there was a way they could prosecute him for the lies he has told the American people about his BS plan to cash in on the Healthcare industry. Do you really want the government to run your healthcare?

I might try a BC. The only issue I have with the spinning reels is that they are bulky & don't lay flat. I think I'd have to have a lefty though.

Acadamy had the mettles for $30 friday, I hear they're good for jigging. I really like the flipping switch on mine (not a mettle).
