Anyone remember the Crystal Confectionery in San Angelo back the late 70's? Great Tex/Mex food, exciting time, and MeeMo, the manager from Las Vegas, running the place. cheers

The Big Pit in South Fort Worth - the original winner of the best hamburger in Fort Worth - Oh and Kincaids is 15th on my list at best.

The Big Pit - man I haven't thought about that place in years - and they did have a great burger. (on E. Vickery St?) We used to eat lunch there quite a bit back in the mid-late 70's.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking about Underwood's BBQ, instead of Woody's. My wife used to teach school off Seminary street and we at at Underwood's BBQ fairly often back in the day. (strange as it seems, I don't think I ever ate their BBQ)

I almost forgot!! I was a picky eater until I was 12. Fried shrimp was the most I would eat and I wouldn't touch steak....until I was finally taken to a place by my parents in Casa Linda with gas jets all around the dining room facing grill with the chef right there.....THE HOUSE OF STEAKS! My first steak of what became a lifetime of enjoying something besides fried shrimp and French fried lol.

In Ballinger, Dairy Kreme and Jumbo Burger-great burgers and fries, K&N root beer- you could buy a five gallon jug of the best root beer I've had. Lowake steak house-K.C.'S, a big platter of rings and cold pitcher of beer, celebrated many family birthday parties there http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/images/icons/default/smile.gif

For Mexican food it was El Chacho's, I think in Temple, or El Chico's in Waco on the circle. El Chacho's was designed like a huge cave inside made out of some sort of (I'm sure) asbestos-laden substance that I'm just as sure cost a fortune to tear down. El Chico's was still fine Mexican dining then and not Tex-Mex like now. I remember the red table cloths and black iron candle holders on the tables. Seafood was Surf and Sirloin in Waco. They had yellow glass candle holders with what looked like a piece of fish-net wrapped around them. I found out years later that my wife's mother worked there then and waited on us quite often. There was also Brit's Oyster Bar for a short while, next to Steak And Ale on Valley Mills in Waco. My first experience with raw oysters, and definitely not the last! For Chinese food (Cantonese, actually) it was Cathay House in Waco. I went in there in about 1995 after having not set foot in the place in a good 25 years. The old lady behind the counter looked at me, lowered her glasses, and said, "You Joe's boy!" (My dad's name) For chicken, it was Chicken Shack in Waco or Tinsley's in Marlin. A friend of mine has the neon "Chicken Shack" sign in his collection, I think. Tinsley's deep-fried their rolls and they were incredible. We never ate at The Elite, and I often wondered why until I tried them once as an adult. Thank you, Dad. Oh, and Health Camp on the circle in Waco. Been there for years and is anything but healthy.
