I just checked the Academy Sport website and they have Exide AGM Spiral wrapped batteries for $129.00. They only weigh 38lbs. compared to 50-60lbs for a wet cell battery.

I may just put these in my boat when it comes in, end of December. Heck there 10-20lbs lighter than wet batteries. With a 36V system that equates to over 40lbs less weight... That means I can carry more tackle!!!!

My question would be: If speed is of any concern why would you buy a Ranger ? I have used interstates for over twenty years, have tried other brands but have always came back to interstates.

How much do y'all actually fish?

If I get 2 years out of a set of trolling batteries it's been a good set.

I guess we are doing the same thing wrong, seems like no matter what I buy 2 years and they start to [censored] out.

ko- I feel that for me Ranger is my best all around boat. Granted, they are not the fastest but that doesn't mean I don't want to shave off some unnecessary weight if possible.

I ran Trojans and they cost a lot but never had a problem. Got a newer boat and have blue tops and they are good. They have a purchase date on 02/11 and still seem strong.

Same for me - I replace mine every 3 - 3 1/2 years. Never had a problem doing this routine. That's less than $30 per year per battery.

I went with the cheaper interstates. Got a secondary battery rigged up with the cranking battery to help if all my electronics drain the main one. Its been 2 seasons now and had to warranty out 1 crank. Considering going optima, sears, or trojan once these die.

Interestingly I've heard from a few guys (not on this forum) that have really spoke poorly of the Optimas (they were not sponsored by other company or anything). Was there some bad PR on Optimas for awhile? (clearly many of you have liked them)

I believe the stuff you're talking about was when they switched to making them in Mexico. It has tipped the scales on my decision to get them for now.

I run three 29 Series from Walmart. Maxx. I also run the same on big motor. I had one go bad on me last weekend and just moved the wiring over to the cranking motor and it handled running the TM on 90-100% in the north wind on Saturday. Big motor never had any issue cranking and ran two Graphs and two livewells all day.
